Nova Launcher - is any function lost/gained

I've juts come from a Samsung Galaxy S3 using Nova Launcher (not Prime) to the LG G3 currently using the stock launcher before I try out Nova. So far I'm enjoying using the Knock Code to lock/unlock and also answering calls just by picking the phone up to my ear.

However I do miss some of the features available in Nova and wondered whether or not to swap back to using it, with or without Prime.

Will I lose the Knock Code facility or will it still be there? Also will I still be able to use the pick up to ear to answer or is that only with the stock launcher?

Is there anything else that I will lose or gain through switching to Nova?

Welcome.

You will need Nova Prime to use their Gestures feature to be able to use the Knock On/Off on any part of the screen like stock.
Otherwise, everything else should work just fine.

One common misperception is with the knock code (for turning on/off your screen) when you use an after market launcher. While you can pay for Prime with Nova to use their gesture feature and be able to "lock" the screen, you don't have to. While you won't have the ability to double-tap in a blank space with the other launcher, you can just double tap in the notification panel (i.e. double-tap on the clock in the top right-hand corner) and it will turn your screen off. This shouldn't matter which launcher you use (Nova and Buzz I can personally attest to). Also, with Nova's gesture feature, it will literally lock your screen each time if you have security lockscreen enabled (whereas the stock launcher and the double-tap on the clock only turn the screen OFF).

You can get the knock feature with Prime. Just download the Screen Off app, and use the double tap gesture to enable screen off. I have it, and it works exactly like knock.

Play store. I didn't want to download nova because I liked the stock a lot plus I didn't want to loose my knock off feature but the app screen off and lock works flawlessly and I am experiencing just about 0 lag. There's a lot of lag with the stock launcher.

Confused with this - I realise Nova Prime will give me the double tap gesture so why do I need the Screen off app?

Nova lets you assign specific apps or shortcuts to gestures. For example, you can have one gesture open email, another gesture open the app drawer, etc. But there's no built-in app to turn off the screen, so you need to install a Screen Off app, then assign the double tap (or other) gesture to activate that app.

So, just to clarify...you CAN use Knock Code (turns on device using the pattern knock) regardless of the launcher you use?

I have Nova launcher. Knock code still works. Gesture to pick up a call near the ear to answer also works. You would lose the double tap to lock screen unless you buy the Nova prime and download screen off for the double tap gesture.

I understand now - thanks.

I use Tasker to turn screen off with double tap gesture. I use Tasker for other tasks as well.

It's a lot smoother I only loose the knock off

You don't lose the knock if you download screen off app, and assign double tap in gestures to activate screen off. Bang, you have knock back again.
