nova launcher newbie questions

I'm tempted to try the nova launcher. I'm amazed that stock launcher doesn't rotate the home screens or do some other basic things.

if i install it, do i have to start from scratch in rebuilding my home screenl layouts
Shortcuts, etc? What happens if I want revert to the native launcher? Do i just uninstall

Yes . Using nova or installing it would require you to redo your setups since its on a different launcher.

But when uninstalled whatever you had set up on the native launcher will stay.

Only if the prior set up is left running and Nova Launcher is installed over it, right? And that's not recommended when installing a new launcher. When installing a new launcher, you need to clear off all your old homescreens because otherwise all those old widgets will still be running in the background.

Or is Nova Launcher different? I admit, I haven't used it. I've only used ADW, Go Launcher EX and LPP.

Not really running. Cause I used to think that back in the days. I use to delete the stock launcher thinking it was running but it doesn't. So you'll be OK.

Deleting the stock launcher seems a bit extreme. I've never felt the need to go that far.

One of the nice things about Nova Launcher is if you are considering rooting your phone, you only have to set everything up one last time. You can save all your layouts on the program. I'm hooked on it for that if nothing else. It also allows some additional customization you can't get on the stock launcher.

Since the launcher is not currently active, why would the widgets be running twice? That doesn't make any sense.
Also, if you want full functionality of the Nova launcher, you need to install the apk, along the the launcher zip file in recovery mode. If you don't, you won't get the widgets in the app drawer to scroll.

It is funny you ask that. At first I installed it as an app but then I rooted my phone. Then I installed it as a system app. I had to restore my Nova file and the phone didn't like it, nova kept crashing. Then I completely removed Nova and reinstalled it and had to set everything up one last time. So choose wisely, at least in my case the back ups were not interchangeable.

I use Home Manager to kill off the launcher that im not using. I'm currently running NovaLauncher at the moment and kill of Go Launcher and the stock launcher when not in use. And its easy to toggle which home screen you want to use.

So you have installed as a regular app and not a system app?
I just want to try it out.
I am rooted, so that doesn't bother me, neither is choosing widgets the old way....just wanted to see which way people are doing it. I think most are doing it as a system app.
