Not at all dumb, but there are confusingly two different senses of "unlocked". If your phone is N986U and not N986U1, then you do not have the unlocked model, regardless of when you got it. The only firmware your phone receives over the air is the firmware for N986U.
Which firmware are you referring to as the November update? The latest N986U1 firmware for any carrier is ATJ4, which still has the Oct 1 Android security patch level.
No, the firmware-version naming sequences are different for different phone models. So BTJ3 for the N986U is not necessarily ahead of ATJ3 or ATJ4 for the N986U1. (Also, the "level" terminology applies only to Google's Android security patches, not to the rest of the firmware update.) Your carrier's website has the release notes describing what's in the firmware updates for your carrier-branded phone.I'm locked with AT&T and still running "September" Security Patch BUT, it's "1BTIF" and Verizon's September is "1BTJ3" as 'Moo Cow' stated. Doesn't make me feel any better about not getting my October OR November patches, but we are at a higher level[?]
But we did go from "1ATH3" in August 25th Security Patch to the "BTIF" for September so it was a big letter jump! Also, AT&T is notorious for being really vague with their descriptions: Both months say "Various fixes and improvements, Network performance improvements" - doesn't help much! No, the firmware-version naming sequences are different for different phone models. I do understand what you're saying though!
Overnight, my Verizon-locked phone received System Update 4, which is listed as N986USQS1BTJ8.
I wonder how long before they get it out on OTA now??? At least we know it's there, thanks to you... gracias!
No Mustang, just "Check for Updates" - I was able to check it on "MyAT&T" Web Site though and as I mentioned in another post - vague, "Bug fixes, Network Improvements and Monthly Security Patch"! Same thing it said for September!!!Jim in settings >software update under check for updates does it give last update? If so tap on it and should show this View attachment 328737

The unlocked phones give better description what's new usually. No Mustang, just "Check for Updates" - I was able to check it on "MyAT&T" Web Site though and as I mentioned in another post - vague, "Bug fixes, Network Improvements and Monthly Security Patch"! Same thing it said for September!!!
Wonder why that is?The unlocked phones give better description what's new usually.
Carriers sometimes don't care to put that info up, with unlocked its available through Samsung , but you can get more info from sources like Sam Mobile and other placesWonder why that is?
When do we get the November security patxh. Do you think I should clear the system cache partition after any update?Carriers sometimes don't care to put that info up, with unlocked its available through Samsung , but you can get more info from sources like Sam Mobile and other places
I thought I heard some are getting November already? Might take some time for rollout. Clearing cache in recovery after a update is definitely worth it , not necessarily but recommend. When do we get the November security patxh. Do you think I should clear the system cache partition after any update?![]()
