Now available for pre order uk

And just as I post that I get an email from O2 saying it's available to pick up! I've got to wait till later this afternoon though!

Look forward to hearing some of your feedback later!

Nice, look forward to hearing your thoughts later on!

Unfortunately, o2 got my order completely wrong. They sent out the wrong colour phone.

Even though one of the employees said the I ordered the correct one and it went wrong on their system... Because I had not noticed it on my confirmation email, they were unwilling to recompense for the mistake or let me swap for the correct one today.

So I've got to do a door to door swap tomorrow. At least I should have it for the weekend.

First world problems though, right.

No. It's easily manageable. I was surprised.

Go and try one out in a store. Most people should find it just fine.

Yeah, I'd agree. Coming from a Huawei mate 20 pro it doesn't feel that much bigger. (Although it is taller of course).

How's the purple one? It's not too "feminine" is it?

It's very nice. An unusual colour that sort of morphs into blue in differeing light. It's definitely not too feminine.

When the black one arrived yesterday in error, I thought is was okay. But seeing the purple today I'm happy with it.

Only two gripes (but you cant have everything) :

* Lacking wireless charging is a bit of a shame but not a dealbreaker

* I was not impressed to see facebook on their upon first boot, and it's impossible to uninstall it. You can only disable it. This really gets my back up and it's BS that such an awful company has as big a hold over people/companies.

How's the camera for those with the phone then?
Capable? Quick to shoot in low light?

One thing I've found in low light with Sony phones (and by low light I mean indoor with lights on etc), it slows right down, takes ages to snap and is sluggish in view finder.

Thanks!

Need more time with the camera to form a solid opinion, but first impressions are good.

I'm going to have a look in CPW today at one.
If I do like it, I'll order through Vodafone as I like the grey one best, and the PS4 is a decent freebie.

How was it?

I really liked it.
The tall display I actually much preferred over these devices that are wider and have a curved screen. Those ones are cumbersome. This was far from it.

The screen seemed a little dim, max brightness wasn't too impressive, but coming from a Pixel 3, I'm kinda used to that.

I managed to do a little camera comparison with my Pixel 3, and as expected the Pixel snapped a cleaner (better) shot. The Xperia 1 was still very good, but when Pixel-peeping you could really see that the Pixel 3 had more detail and much less noise. Always been a problem with Sony devices that.

But overall, I was pretty impressed. I just don't know if it's worth changing from my Pixel 3 as I don't know what it's going to give me that my Pixel doesn't. Other than that long display which looks to be great for messaging apps and social media apps like Insta etc.

I did like how it felt like I was using a Pixel - this is the closest thing to stock I've seen from anything other than a Pixel and I definitely appreciate that.

If I do get one, it'll be through Vodafone for that amazing grey colour.

I agree with almost everything you say.

Although, regarding camera, having moved to Xperia 1 from pixel 3 XL, it took me some time messing around with the Xperia 1 features and settings before I started to get better photos.

Using the 12mp 4:3 setting, I switched to manual with HDR and instantly the quality improved.

There are a number of subtle further improvements that can be made with fettling the general settings to get a better shot.

I'm happy moving the pixel 3 XL aside.

Oh well that's good to hear then. And good to know that you moved from the Pixel 3 - if the Xperia 1 is working for you then that gives me hope!

I have just placed my order for an Xperia 1 anyway. It isn't in stock with Vodafone yet, and there's a 1-2 week delivery for it so I'm not sure when I'm actually getting it, but I really wanted that grey colour and the free PS4 is a nice bonus.

Just got to wait it out now but I know I'll be pleased with it as the black and purple didn't quite do it for me.

Thanks both. I'm also coming from Pixel (2) so I was concerned about the camera in the Sony.

Is their newfound teamwork with Alpha noticeable then? And is there a delay in taking photos after pressing the shutter button?

I will try to check it out in CPW soon.
