Now or wait?

I've had the 6 since Feb of 16, after the P had been out for several months. A carry over I purchased it on the Motorola site for $400 or a little less, can't find a record of it on the site since Lenovo took over. I like flagship features but dislike the money they get for them, I usually wait until the next series releases and snag the dethroned king of the hill. I don't do contracts. The current mid range phones seem to fall somewhat short of what I'm using, Amoled screen, speakers, resolution. My battery is still holding up pretty well, but I get the feeling it's beginning to tire. The phone fix guys say they can put a new battery in for $65 if it starts to fail, that's an option if I decide to hang on for a bit. I'd like to stay under $500, seems hard to do in the land of CDMA.

Hoping for some recommendations I haven't considered, tia.

I hadn't considered the Essential phone. I'll be looking for some user feedback on it. The OnePlus 5T looks to be a great phone but not CDMA friendly.

Thanks for your response!
I've had the Essential phone for a few months. My previous phones were the Nexus 6, 5x, 6p and OnePlus 3T. I'm really happy with the PH-1 on latest Oreo beta. Feels and looks like a premium device, the screen is beautiful and bright, camera has improved from subpar to good but not great and battery life is excellent. Everything has been smooth so far on 8.1 beta. Haven't had any signal strength issues on AT&T but it seems to vary depending on the carrier.

How many updates have you received up to and including 8.1? I've read they make a significant improvement in performance, has that been your experience as well?

When I first set up the phone (late November) it had notifications for a couple major updates which included bug fixes and the latest security patches. Then I decided to try 8.0 beta which had 3 updates. Just got the first 8.1 beta Wednesday. Haven't had any issues so far. The overall performance has definitely improved quite a bit after all the updates. Scrolling is smoother, apps open faster, battery life has improved on beta 8.0 and 8.1. I recently went 40+ hrs without charging and got 7+ hrs SoT before charging at 25%. Signal strength seems to have improved a bit but was never that bad with AT&T.

LOL, seems as I've gotten used to a tired battery/device. 13 hrs on this charge, 2 hrs Sot, 32% battery left. Bluetooth has been on all day though...

For $450 it's pretty impressive, I believe the Essential is the way I'm going to go, thanks for your feed back!

No problem. Had the N6 for 2+ years. Was a great phone but the battery life wasn't great towards the end and I was ready for a less bulky phone. Even when new my N6 never lasted as long as PH-1. Best part about this phone over the N6 is the 5.7" screen with small form factor. It's barely bigger than the LG G2 I had which has 5.2 " screen.

I agree, I'm looking forward to a smaller profile than the 6.
