O/Cing Your Nexus 10

I have a question about overclocking my Nexus 10 tablet. I'm familiar with O/C CPU's in desktop PC's, but not tablets. I have an app called AnTuTu CPU Master Free, and it lets you O/C your CPU. It gives you 2 options. I see a Max option which is currently set to the max at 1700 MHz. That's the default, and I have not changed it. There is another setting called Min and it starts at 200 MHz and goes to 1700 MHz. It also has a scaling option that allows you to set profiles it seems. I see Userspace, Interactive and Performance. You can also set on Boot when it loads.

I may be wrong here, but it doesn't look like you can change the actual CPU ceiling, but just the minimum. So it looks as if you can basically keep it running at 1700 MHz if you so choose. I don't see a big upside here, because I think and I may be wrong, but I think the reason for scaling down the speed is to only use as little CPU speed as possible when it's not needed to save battery life. Am I wrong here?

I've had this app for about a month, but haven't really done anything or even really looked until now. My question was what's the recommended setting (on the high end) for the Nexus 10, but seeing as you can only control how far it scales down, doesn't seem to help me. Does anyone know of another app that will actually allow you to overclock the CPU in the 10 and if so, what's the app's name and is it safe? Thanks!

Extremely bad idea on the Nexus 10. It already runs hot and unlike desktops, tablets have no fan. Plus, there is really no need. The Nexus 10 is already top-of-the-stack speedy.

There's no need to over clock a tablet at all, especially the n10 or other 10' tablets. If damage occurs as a result of the over clocking, it will void your warranty, and you'll have to pay for repairs.

That being said, you can still change the governor, and io scheduler if you want to.

Based on the content of your post, I'm assuming your still running the stock kernel. If you wanted to O/C, you would first need to install a custom kernel that supports it, then you could use an app like the one you mentioned to set your max/min and governors and such. With the stock kernel, there's really not much you can do, and it's already set at the highest frequency the kernel supports (in other words, it's not a different app you're looking for). I'd advise against changing any settings with the default kernel unless you're absolutely sure what you're doing (if it even lets you).

On a few of my past devices, I've played around this, but haven't really found a need with the Nexus 10, as it runs pretty great as is...I don't know what custom kernels are available for the N10, but XDA would be the place to look.

Maybe there's some good reason for this, but I'd doubt. Overclocking is often a juvenile obsession of people that have too much time on their hands. It may be very unfriendly to say it, but, on the other hand, it's very often true.
