Oct 2018 Update problems

Same thing happened to me. I'm not sure if it's the update as I needed to do a recovery last week. Thought the Oct update would address a bug, but it bricked the phone. Bootlooping, won't allow me to Recover or hard reset.

Took it to ibreakufix per Google and they won't touch it.
First problem I've had with phone in 2 years.
Curious to here what Google says.

Got Google to call me (on a secondary phone). I had already tried Safe Mode and the phone rebooted itself twice. So they had me do a factory reset. Frustrating, but not terrible after my previous experience - I had to do a FR after the Pie upgrade. I will see how my phone is in the AM.

What kind of 3rd party apps (if any) are you guys running? I'm bone stock.....no apps, but my phone is running perfectly, and I just got it set up new out of the box not even 2 weeks ago. I really don't want problems already. Honestly I have nothing that needs fixing. I think I'm going to pass on this update for now :-(

I have very basic apps installed with no new apps downloaded in the past couple of months. No social apps etc.
I honestly think my problem is hardware related... really disappointed in that the phone worked flawlessly but fell 2 months short of the 2 year mark

I have many installed apps. Banking, utilities, camera apps, yada, yada. But this freezing/rebooting behavior didn't happen until the most recent update. And the behavior didn't happen in any particular app. It also was happening in Safe Mode (no 3rd party apps loaded) so I don't think it was an app problem.

It's interesting that several posts have shown up in the past week with the same reports of a bricked phone??
Timing or the OTA??
Timing sucks for me either way

Surprising, though, that the 2 has no problems with October. (I don't update OTA, I flash the factory ROM image - it's faster when you're running Magisk and TWRP - but [knock on wood] no problems so far.)

I have have a Verizon phone so my boot loader is encrypted unfortunately. But it was a fair trade off since the phone ended up costing me $240...

Well, a full day of phone use, after the Factory Reset, and no lock up, no involuntary reboot. Still miffed that it took a FR to correct the problem, whatever it was, that seems to have been generated by the update.

Did you install the Oct update after the FR?

It installed itself as part of the reset. Been running fine since the reset. The way Google restores the phone now, factory resets are not as bad as they used to be. It even restored Weather Timeline, even though it is no longer in the Play Store.

I put on Pie. Phone worked well. Put on the October security update and when my wife tried to call me the next day, no audio or mic and then the phone shut off. I was unable to get it to turn on. Was very glad I backed it up the day before.

I ended up claiming under extended warranty However my worry is I can't turn it on to wipe it. I have to imagine they want the old one back. The phone has been solid and I have even been thinking of upgrading my HTC10 to the Pixel three...but now I am not so sure. I know phones can have quirks but a security update should not cause a brick.
