Odd Behavior (Factory Reset)

So I wanted to reset everything back to as close to ?out of the box? as I could so I flashed Stock-i500-VZW-System.tar followed by Stock-i500-VZW-Kernel.tar and then Stock-i500-VZW-Recovery.tar. All three flashes were successful with full power cycles between each, however all of my settings and downloaded apps survived the flash. I guess this is SOP since DATA and CACHE were not touched during this process.

So I then proceeded to boot into stock recovery and select Factory Rest? and here is where it gets odd? After it boots again I am ALMOST back to stock but all of the settings I had made (disable haptic, changed default TW Home screen?) were still configured. This seemed very odd to me. Shouldn?t this have reset everything?

I was able to get back to full stock settings but using the Privacy > Factory Data Reset but shouldn?t the Factory reset from recovery do the same thing?

No, the behavior is slightly different. Only the reset from Privacy-Settings will clear out the personal settings and /dbdata directory. I believe CWM recovery can do this as well, but on a stock system, privacy reset is the only way to clear it all.

Strange, I agree.

Good to know!

Thanks!
