My pc has win7pro 64bit. Usually I use my netbook to do stuff with my epic. But I let my dad take it with him out of town for a few weeks. So I need to make due with my pc. Anyways when I plug it in the pc does nothing and the epic shows its charging but doesn't offer drive mode or have the USB debugging notification like it does when connected to my netbook. I don't recall having to download drivers for my netbook. But for the sake of thoroughness I downloaded drivers from the support section of Samsung's site for the epic. After the installer completed the adding hardware thing came up and nearly immediately indicated failed to install for two things both named the same neither appeared to be named epic or Samsung. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not keen on the idea of unplugging all 8 USB devices to try all the other ports since that requires pulling my tower out to access those ports. Since it's drawing power it must be something I'm overlooking.

Did you also try the 32bit drivers? Some people are able to make those drivers work on their 64bit version of Windows. Also try different USB cables as that can cause the problem too. And if you really need to, you can always buy a new data cable for your epic on Amazon or any other site/store that sells data cables.

There was only one download offered and it didn't indicate if it was 32 or 64bit. I assume it Auto detects or is 32bit. As typically 64bit is not offered by default or not packaged alone when only one download is offered. The cable is the same one I use when connecting to my netbook however I do have other ones I can try (at least two). With that said will the epic only offer drive mode if the drivers have been successfully installed? And will the pc try and install some sort of driver when it is plugged into pc if the cable is working correctly?

Update the cable appears to have been the issue even though it works when connecting with it on my netbook. Drivers installed successfully with the spare cable and the epic shows USB debugging and USB drive mode notification. So I assume later tonight when I go to copy stuff to my pc all will be well.

Another odd thing, it took 7 zip hours to zip just over 1 GB but it took only 15 minutes to copy the zip to my PC and only 15 minutes to unzip it to the touchpad. Zipping the same amount of data using my NetBook takes about 20 minutes and about the same time to copy. The specs on my PC are about double the performance based on CPU and RAM.

I got the NetBook late 2009 early 2010. It has a single core 1.6GHz CPU and 2 GB of RAM. My PC has a dual core 3.2Ghz CPU and 4 GB of RAM.
