Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

Hi all: i have a few apps that trigger some odd "screen overlay" question and takes me to a selection page.

i don't understand what this page does and why it's doing this annoying thing.

may i ask if anyone else has experienced this please?

Side key panel is another culprit

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

I followed these steps exactly and now some apps are working like they should but some still arent and im getting quite frustrated. i cant figure out what is causing this because i dont have lux, any clean master apps, any apps by cheetah mobile or any data management apps except for the ones that come stock on the gs7

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

I have the Galaxy S7 and I see the popup as well. Its under settings and application manager. In the upper right corner you will see a "MORE" option. Select that and you will see Draw over other apps. This is the overlay that you are getting prompts from. Once you select it, you will see the option to Enable it or disable it. From here you can unselect it or, go to each app you are getting prompts for and see if it's enabled. If it's something you don't want to overlay other apps, simply disable it. If you don't like the overlay feature on any apps, you can select "disable" at the top of the list. Hope this helps.

I was able to get to this location, but it does not give me the option to Disable or Enable such as you describe. Any other suggestions?

Scroll down to lux and click the switch beside the item.

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

Thank you so much you helped me fix the problem that has been annoying me for couple of days and rhe service center told me i will lose all the data and they can not do anything about it, so thank you for your help a lot you saved over 2 months of data that would have gone with the wind

I just fixed your exact problem on the exact same phone....step#1-first off do you have the clean master app or anything similar installed on your phone? If so, delete it. That app causes problems with the s7 because we already have a built in sweeper and security. Step#2- Once you've done that, power down your phone. While your phone is powered down, hold the volume up AND the menu buttons at the same time. While your holding both buttons, press and hold the power on button. (Now you should be holding 3 keys, volume up, menu, and power at same time. But remember, the volume up and menu should be pressed and held first, before pressing the power on button with them) as you do this, wait until you see either your phone carriers name/symbol or any display appear on screen that's showing your phone is being powered on. Once you see the display, let go of the power butyon, but keep the up volume and menu keys pressed, until it brings you to a screen that shows a couple options. Once your screen displays this, u may let go of all the keys you were holding....navigate down the options available with the volume down key and select on the option that says something about cache. (I don't remember all the other words next to this option, but I know it's the only option with cache in it, so bare with me. Lol) select that using the power key. A display with options yes or no will appear. Select yes. After this it should bring you back to the first screen with all the other options. Now select the first choice at the top that says reboot.( don't worry, your data will not be lost). Then your problem should be fixed. Just go to the appsame that were giving up problems and give it permissions, aso you was trying to do before, but the screen overlay BS kept popping up, it won't anymore.

BTW, I was looking thru all these forums and Google yesterday for a solution. It was driving me crazy. A t-mobile tech from Texas named Lewis is the one who helped me with my problem, about an hour ago. I never posted in these forums, but I had to make an account to let anyone else know, who has tried all other options and nothing works who ends up here. Because it was driving me [ language cleanup]crazy! So I hope this helps. Peace.

Bless you sir a thousand times Bless you!!!!!! I have a V10 and I was seconds from, whipping this phone into the Everglades. I didn't have to do all the Button pushing stuff. All I did was. DELETE THE CLEAN-MASTER APP!!

Problem gone!

I too dread DREAD any updates because it cause days [language redacted by mod] to fix everything!!!

Thank so much to you and Mr. Tech from Texas

Yes, deleting Clean Master worked for me too. Glad I happened to see this obscure solution! Telus should have a page on their website addressing this issue.

Go to Settings, applications, application manager, more (on the right corner), apps that can appear on top, disable all !
Then go to application manager and select application (like Facebook), click on it and select Permission. You can now enable what ever you want.

Hello, the situation is this:
For whatever application I try to enable any kind of App permission (in Apps manager), a pop-up says:
"Screen Overlay Detected
To change this permission setting, you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps"
Now, if you click 'Open Settings', you arrive to the "Apps that can appear on top" setting page.

The PROBLEM is, that even if you clear all of the permissions (even for the systems apps) you will still get the above pop-up, and you can not exit this loop. You can't grant any permission to you apps --> you can't use your apps.

I am using: Samsung Galaxy S5, Android 6.0.1.

The problem may be any type of "Security App".

In my case, it was TrustGo Antivirus & Mobile Security.

As soon as I uninstalled it, everything worked as it is supposed to. Unfortunately, re-installing the app caused the problem to come back, so I had to remove it again.

Woohoo.....thanks your solution worked great, thanks!

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

I use twilight. I tried clearing the cache and that did not work. As soon as I disabled (paused) Twilight, I was able to use the app asking me to disable screen overlay (Duo). This is frustrating because I really do like these dimming apps.

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

This is driving me nuts, too! I am pretty sure it was Twilight that was causing the issue on my S7. I haven't had the pop up in several days now since disabling it.

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

Yes Twilight does that. Personally I just reenable it after activating whatever I need to that it's blocking.

Re: Odd "screen overlay" pop up shows up often with some apps, what is it and how to properly select

I owe you huge! One day I spent of it, and as soon as I spotted you solution I remebered Turing this feature on. Turning it off.fixed everything, but you have to restart the phone. If this weren't a digital space I'd buy you a pint.) Assuming you're over 19!)
