what percentage of phones brick on trying to root and flash a rom if you had to guess? i just got this phone last week and i like to tweak things so it's hard not to try this, but then i see all the posts from people who have had problems flashing there phone.

im trying to see if the benefits are worth the risk?

AFAIK, there has not been a single case of truly bricking your Optimus V via rooting or flashing custom recoveries or ROMs. Regardless of what you do, there is always fastboot to the rescue.

The only way to brick your phone is to follow directions and use files that you find outside of these Optimus V forums.

well ill come across some peoples sigs where they have status "bricked" for there opitmus v phone or people talking about having to send there phone in for repair. possibly other message boards.

People often think their phone is bricked when it actually is not. If anything ever happens, come here and we can walk you through recovering your phone.

Then there are those that flashed Optimus S firmware onto their phones. While this doesn't brick it, it will kill your VM data. And then they will kill their phones trying to fix it.

Stick to the files and info you find here, and you will be 100% safe.

well im gonna have to give it a shot then. thanks for the reply

I semi-bricked the first time I installed a new ROM, as I accidentally loaded gapps twice instead of CM7 first, then gapps. Backing up your old data is key, I was able to fix my brain fade in no time.

Agreed... backup, backup BACKUP!!! And read!!! I read and re-read for a week before my first flash. Can't stress that enough. I screwed up many times (being tired and flashing and messing up) that I thank God I created a backup. I have a few actually. If something does go wrong and you need help, the great folks in these forums will help you. I even read one great wise poster actually used his pc to remotely control another posters pc to gain access to the phone and unbrick it. The benefits completely outweigh the risk. You have the support... have fun and flash!! :)
