Odin Fails, screen stuck, and no cwm

By George, I think I've got it!!! Adrenalynn's steps worked. DroidxCon was trying to tell us these steps, but something happened with androidfascinate that was different from me. androidfascinate, if you haven't tried the steps in this order, try it. MY PHONE WORKS!!!

Well you didn't miss anything. The only difference I did vs this thread in instructions was that I couldn't find the exact correct rom release, and I did odin and heimdall in the wrong order. I found it on that other Adrenalyn thread. All the other releases I found were missing files, even though they claimed to be stock. I then went back to square one. Heimdall and heimdall driver with all the proper files in the proper places (including the PIT you gave me, which is also in the other thread). Boot phone up, see samsung loop, it failed. Then reinstall samsung usb driver. Then do the same thing, (download mode, flash, repartition) but with Odin. Phone then booted correctly.

Yeah, I've read this entire thread and watched it as it's happened as I was involved in trying to help the first person who came to AC who flashed i9000 software on their Fascinate, but did not have the knowledge or skill to do so. It took Adrynalyne about 3 or 4 hours of communicating and working with that first guy before he was able to figure out how to fix it. The steps you followed in the Adrynalyne post over at XDA are the exact same steps DroidXcon was trying to have you do. Adrynalyne shared the steps with DroidXcon and I'm sure he has them saved in a file along with everything that is needed. But I noticed throughout this thread actinogen and androidfascinate continued to try and trouble shoot the problem and wanted to keep trying their own solutions instead of just listening to DroidXcon and following his exact steps. Why would you ask him for his help, because believe me you were in a bad situation with flashing the i9000 software, and then not pay attention to what he was trying to tell you to do?

I was learning all the lingo as I went, I didn't purposely not listen to him. I was just trying to make sense of the confusion as it was happening. When I first read the forum I hadn't heard of half the directions DroidXcon was discussing. Heimdall wasn't even working properly for me at first, which is why I gave up and tried Odin right afterwards instead of completing Heimdall. I thought the only boxes I needed to fill were the ones that I originally had changed (just the kernel with Odin)

I apologize for my lack of thoroughness. But if I was familiar with this stuff I probably woulda found the other thread and saw the steps in one post and been done with it. Hopefully someone could take the confusion of this thread to realize they are in the same situation, as many of the thread titles are misleading.

It can get very confusing with thread titles, and the moderators are doing the best they can to clean up these forums. Problem is there is an ever increasing wave of new rooters coming here because they are finally just completely fed up with the delay in the official Froyo release. And not everyone is familiar with the ins and outs of the forum. So a lot of people start a new thread just to ask one question that would have been better asked in an already existing thread covering the same topic. That then pushes the large informative threads that people need to constantly refer to back to page 2,3, or even further back in the forums. Gunnermike53's great thread on discussions on how to improve battery life is currently on page 3 and I'd be willing to bet a lot of people don't even know the thread exists. It would probably help a great deal if everyone who is new to the forums, or has not already read this information, checks out the Forum FAQ section thoroughly. It has all you need to know about the forum rules & guidelines, but it also has great information on how to best search the fourms, post, reply, helpful hints, tips, and tricks that will enhance your experience here at the forums, help you get more out of the forums, and make the forums work more to your benefit.
