Hey all - Thanks for helping out a complete noob (first post, first android, first attempt at rooting)...

Quick run-down -
Samsung Drivers installed
USB De-Bugging enabled
Software installed, zip moved to phone
Odin starts up... I get the green bar with a com number
correct file in the PDA field... I'm ready to go (so says the youtube video...)

I click Start - five seconds go by (the guy on the video already has the green "Pass" square) - 10 seconds - 20 seconds (I start to panic) - one minute (I'm now drenched in cold sweat)...

I decided to just let it play out, and after about five minutes I got a red square telling me that I had "Failed."

Still in a panic, I restarted my phone. Everything started up fine, so it seems no harm was done. I tried the whole process again with the same results.

I'm at work - our computers don't allow access to youtube, so I'm not able to tell you exactly which rooting process I was using, but it was linked to the XDA-developers site and was explicitly for the T-Mobile version. Any help would be appreciated. If you have any specific questions about the software I used, I can fill in the details later. Thanks in advance...

Wow. That was easy.
Believe it or not that worked.
(this is the part where I forget to tell you that I was trying to use a cable taped back together after a destructive cat accident.)
