Odin won't recognize Epic

I've never used Heimdall before, so I don't know, but I've seen this needle thing come up on a few threads. About half the people are convinced it works and the other half think it's pure BS. I have no clue, but it's prolly worth a shot.

Let us know if it works. Good luck!

The needle thing did not work for my epic. I called the sprint tech support and they said that they would ship me out a new one for $36 because I am under warranty but that if they find that the phone was tampered with(the lady said dropped) that they would just go ahead and charge me the $600. Is there any way that they can tell that my phone is rooted if it won't load up. I plan on erasing my SD card before i ship it back to them. Since my epic can still go into download mode is that a way that they can tell my phone is rooted. I just don't want to end up paying $600 for a new epic when my upgrade comes up in june. I will try to post a pic later of what my phone screen looks like.

These are the pictures of what my epic looks like turned on. I took it with my old samsung rant sorry for the bad quality

Dude, I can't read any of that, except to make out that it's on stock recovery. Keep trying with Odin, though, especially with the battery out. I know you already have, but Odin's so finicky that it's prolly worth re-trying several times. If all else fails and they end up charging you $600 for the replacement, you should consider donating your phone to these guys...I'm sure they could use it: The Epic Development Platform AKA UnBrickable Mod - xda-developers

well they are only gonna charge me 36 first so if they don't find out that my phone was rooted I would be fine I was just wondering if there was a way that they could tell my phone was rooted.

I don't have a solution, but I had the same problem this weekend. I tried my old laptop and one of my desktop PCs, then tried my wife's laptop and finally got it to work. I'm wondering if the hardware in the later phones changed. I would suggest trying a pc with a USB 2.0 port. All of my PCs are Dell's.

OK i will see if i can find a 2.0 port and just keep trying. i think I am gonna have to just take the replacement phone and hope they don't notice that my phone was rooted.

one more thing... is my phone being rooted violating the warranty anyway? i read somewhere that it doesn't violate the warranty so than i would be fine just turning it in.

I'm not sure about this, but as far as I know it does violate the warranty. That's why people usually Odin back to stock before taking phones in to Sprint.
