OEM Charger (Travel Adapter) Too Powerful? Charging Too Fast?

My S5 charger Model: EP-TA11UWE has an output of 5.3v at 2.0 A

It charges the phone in no time, but I was always led to believe a faster charge was not so good for a battery and it wouldn't last as long as a slower charge.

Why is the charger that came with the phone so powerful, I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the charger with that is 5v 2.0 A with Model No. ETA-U90UWE.

It's made me think it would be more beneficial in charging the S5 with my old S2 charger Model No. ETA0U10UBE 5v 0.7A

I'd be extremely interested if anyone else has thought the same thing and/or tried a slower charge?

I figure a faster charge creates more heat. However, if Samsung included a charger that powerful there would likely be no benefit to do a slower charge. The S5 was designed to support this sort of like newer cars are designed to need oil changes less often.

I charged my S5 overnight the other day with the S2 charger which is 0.7A instead of the supplied 2.0A and so far I'm on Day 2 with a battery on 71%

That's a great question. There is no way it should pull more power than it needs for it to charge. So charging it on either Model should produce the same charge(battery life length). As for how fast it charges, of cause the one that has a 2.0 amp compared to a .7 amp should charge it faster, that shouldnt have any affect on the battery life length tho.

Thank you for your information.Then should we use a universal charger? With the OEM Charger,my S5 got very hot when charging.Will this damage the phone?

Two comments

1) The new qualcomm tech inside is said to allow for fast charging with no issues.

2) Even if this kills the battery twice as fast, I'll gladly buy a replacement OEM battery next year off Amazon for $10 to replace this one if it means I can replenish the phone in a little over an hour.
