I saw tis thread before, can't find it. Does anyone have a link to an off brand adapter that works? I am talking from first hand experience.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you as I have never tried any of them....

I got the mhl adapter from monoprice and the 11 to 5 pin and it works great. Also picked up the usb otg cable from them.
