Unless you're rooted, you can't. Or rather it would be futile since you can't restore nor see the contents. How do I export an exact image of my android hard drive to Windows PC?
So which software should I use to make that image?Unless you're rooted, you can't. Or rather it would be futile since you can't restore nor see the contents.
Backup important folders manually or find an automated app that backs up to Google Drive.
Important folders: DCIM, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, Recordings.
That's about it aside from any other folders you made since you can't get to nor restore anything else.
In hindsight though I absolutely should've rooted my pixel 8, so my next question is which software would I use to transfer my data to a rooted device since I obviously can't use the Google startup interface?Unless you're rooted, you can't. Or rather it would be futile since you can't restore nor see the contents.

I'm willing to accept the security risk. The problem with cloning an entire image of a phone somewhere else is that it's a huge security risk.
Problem is I know police departments clone ENTIRE phone hard drives (without first rooting them ) during investigations so it's definitely possible. You literally said peicemeal backup of specific folders is my only option on nonrooted phones & I need SYSTEMATIC cloning to search for that needle in a haystack.OP you need to go re-read what i said.
After that read what's involved to root, maintaining root, what you loose and gain. After what VidJunky said. After that mustang7757 and then B. Diddy's posts.
This isnt a simple task if you have no idea what you're doing. Deep reading is your next step.
It doesn't matter if you accept the risk -- it has more to do with the overall security of the platform for all users.I'm willing to accept the security risk.
So how do police departments forensically clone nonrooted phone hard drives?
Police use specialized forensic tools that can create full physical images — these are not consumer products and require legal authority, training, and often hardware exploits. On an unrooted Android, the only backups you can make with consumer tools are logical (specific folders/data) — there’s no off-the-shelf software you can buy that will bit-for-bit clone the entire phone like Acronis does for PC hard drives. If you need deeper imaging, that typically requires rooting and/or professional forensic softProblem is I know police departments clone ENTIRE phone hard drives (without first rooting them ) during investigations so it's definitely possible. What software must I acquire to fulfill this objective ?
2) If there's dedicated software to Image-Clone computer hard drives (like Acronis), there necessarily to be an equivalent for Android!
