Why hasn't the official update to Android 4.0.3 been released for the Galaxy Nexus? Manufacturers are already coming out with upgrades for their Hoenycomb Tablets to Android 4.0.3 while a device that is supposed to get updates first is still stuck in Android 4.0.2.

I wonder if Google will release something to us Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners like Android 4.0.4 or 4.1 with even more features just to be ahead of everyone else. The phone already lacks group messaging, poor audio quality (especially on the voice navigation app) and official support for Google Wallet. Maybe even a beta release of Majel? That would really make it worthwhile for us Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners.

Your thoughts on the delay.

Because its not ready yet. That's why they stopped it on nexus S

This is because the tablets that are getting the update do not have 3g/4g radios in them, and yeah that makes a pretty big difference on the speed on receiving an update. Plus, like was said above, it is not ready yet for our phones.

Patients, Padawan.

Actually, the moto xoom does have a 4G radio and is completely unrelated to the delay. I think the phone functions fine as it is, but there are minor gripes. I think Google/VZW want to squash all those at once.

That's all fine and dandy but why would that delay the GSM version then? Nobody here seems to think that Google will skip this release and give us something better perhaps with Majel? I would really like to play with that.

Ah, did not know that so my apologies. I do think you have a point about wanting to fix everything at once though, but really at this point its all speculation.

And yes, maybe they will completely skip over 4.0.3 on the GNex. No one knows as of now. Trust me, I want this update just as bad as the last person, I hit the "check for updates" button twice a day. But I'm putting confidence in the idea that the longer we wait for it, the more bugs are going to be fixed.

Is there an official GSM release for the GSM in the US.

While the Moto Xoom does have 4G it is NOT a phone. It does not have a phone radio, it only has a data radio. No one's life is at jeopardy if 911 doesn't work. When it comes to a phone, they can't take chances.

Is the 4G Xoom receiving the ICS update? I thought it was just rolling out to the WiFi models for now.

One of two things is likely- 1) it's not ready for release and/or it doesn't fix the problem with reception or 2) we are not going to receive 4.0.3 and will instead skip to some other release (4.0.4?5?6?) that takes care of the radio and other minor problems some have been having.

The optimist in me says it's #2, the realist says that it's #1.

I agree 100% with this. It isn't ready. If it was and it worked (and fixed some issues), it would've been released by now. I don't think this is Google and/or VZW withholding the goods. There is a chance that they had an issue or two with 4.0.3 and are moving on to a higher build, but I'm with you and assuming they're still tweaking it.

I don't think you can "fix" the reception with software (I have followed the threads that have opinions to the contrary). I think only Verizon can fix the reception. Therefore there aren't a lot of things needed for the phone at this point. To me it's a sign of weakness to have to come out with OS fixes as soon as a phone comes out, it might affect sales. Look at the Blackberry Playbook.

I feel like this will be the one update that Verizon has a "heavy" hand in. By heavy I mean they are probably wanting to get down and dirty with the radios and have Samsung change the way the bars work and other tweaks for the next update before taking a more hands off approach after the main things that affects them are fixed. The signal issue directly affects them so they are probably doing their normal amount of testing which could be holding things up slightly but I feel that 4.0.3 is still not even ready from Google so I know Verizon is not the issue here. Also I think we will probably get a 4.0.4 or something like that because even my transformer prime with 4.0.3 has browser force closes and many apps that still don't support it. I wish a fix would roll out soon though because there are a few bugs that annoy me but overall this is one of the best phones I have ever owned. I do believe however that the radio can definitely be fixed or greatly improved with software and I think some of the people with the serious issues have a lemon device because I have not once had a single issue with service and it gets service the same as most of all my old phones and is barely lower than some of the Motorolas I have owned.

Yes, but it's my understanding that the WiFi only Moto Xooms have gottent the ICS update. The 3G/4G ones have not...

4.0.3 isn't officially released? I switched from iphone 4s to the gnex last week and my Android version says 4.0.3 under settings -> about phone

Your kidding right? If not did you get a new phone from Verizon or is it rooted from someone else?

EDIT: Looks like your first post might be trolling.......

Well then I apologize, you never know on the internet lol. Wow whats with that? That has the new radios and all? Did you receive it as an update or did come pre-installed?
