Official Battery Life Thread

this is a picture of my battery this afternoon... it doesn't charge well plugged-into the computer... and of course first day, drained it testing out 4G & downloading all my apps...

as you can see, last night, something was screwy with the charger, was using my old LG charger & cable, didn't charge well and had these weird peaks...

died on the way to work this morning,, and been plugged-in all day on the computer at work... never reached more than 64%

now, finally on the Samsung GN charger & cable, it finally reached 100%... gonna to leave it overnight... hopefully I didn't screw anything up...

BTW.. don't get the Verizon car charger/case/screen protector combo pack, the Car Charger Sucks, doesn't fit well and it doesn't get a constant charge...

You must have a bad charger. Mine works just fine.

Before I recharged this afternoon I was at 10% with 9 hours 33 minutes on the phone with medium to heavy usage including video chat on Gtalk for ~15 minutes. That was on the phones first charge too. Can't wait to try out my extended next week and see how it fares.

I briefly had the Bionic for about a week. I was able to get great battery life with the following settings: 4G LTE on, Bluetooth ON, WiFi off, syncing while in standby - off. With these settings, the battery would barely decrease if it just sat in my pocket the whole day (maybe dropped to 90% after 12+ hours in standby). Turning syncing off in standby seem to be the big difference. I am an android novice - is there a similar option with the GN to not sync email/apps/etc while in standby (I think it was under power saver menu in Bionic)? Has anyone tried similar settings (4G on/BT on/WIFI off/standby syncing off) and see how quickly it drains power in standby?

I really just need the phone for about 15-30 minutes of Bluetooth calls daily and 15-30 minutes of 4G surfing. The rest of time phone would be in standby. Wondering if I can get close to 24 hours with that usage pattern but leaving 4G/BT settings always on like I did with Bionic. Unrealistic?

So far ive had no problems with battery life. This phone comes with alot of stuff on when u first get it. Personaly i never have gps or wifi or 4g on unless im using it at that moment . And as long as u keep stuff off, and start using it like u use a phone uve had awhile, every one will be happy. With the screen off and passing through some crappy signal for a two hour drive, it barely budged. People need to start being smart about what they do and say on a daily basis. The trolling and nit picking about this phone since before it came out has been insane. To be honest it blew me away once i finally got my hands on it in the store. Not only that but my dad, who has a ip4 was duefully impressed. I dont wanna through any bad stuff out there about apple, but besides the camera(which blows away my old dx),it beats them to every one i care about. So im satisfied.

At times I will be a heavy user, will really get to test this out on Monday. Good this is I'm always either close to a plug or in my truck. I knew from the start battery life would not be good for me, hell I would not even get 8 hours out of my BB sometimes!

By far what seems the drain the battery the most is why I bought the phone, the screen. On auto dim it uses from 45 to 53% of the battery, when I have it turned up (brightness at 75%) how I like it then about 70% of battery drain.

I have not turned off 4G since I bought it, but I think it turns off automatic when using WiFi. Is that correct?

Not to bad for me...and I fall in that mod-heavy range. 13% @ 7 hours 40 mins fully on LTE all day.

Standard battery. Pretty good for it's first day! I was on 4G for about 10 hours where I work. At home I go between 3g and 4g.

15 hours today on extended battery and at 26%. Display has used 52% (at 50 % brightness, which seems fine to me), plus 21% used by Android OS.

On wifi at home most of the day, but spent half hour with 4G setting up tethering (issue with that which is resolved). Not many calls, downloaded about 15 apps from Market (on WiFi). Light web surfing, 1-2 hours, took one picture, checked emails (maybe 25) all day from two accounts. I'm not used to the closing feature of ICS, so I probably waste battery there for most of the day. Was out for 2 1/2 hours away from WiFo on 4G but not actively using phone during that period except to check email.

While this may not be a typical day for some people, this is my battery result.

I'm quite pleased with the 16+ hours, and still having ~20% battery left. Granted, I was on WiFi most of the day (about 4 hours on 4G/3G while travelling, the rest on WiFi at home), and the screen brightness was around 35%. I did this purposely to see how the phone would respond with the brightness level. Despite the low level, the screen, as you could imagine, took up the biggest chunk of the battery. Either way, you can colored me impressed, because I got through the entire day without having to charge it, and still having a fifth of the juice left. Now, if the screen brightness had been higher and 4G was on all day, I can see this being a totally different story, but, for the most part, this was a typical day for me.

Oh, and this is the standard battery, not the extended.

little bit better day 2 - wifi was on 90% of the time and 4g is on. No Bluetooth or GPS.

Looking forward to getting my extended battery

I am getting the same as you. About 15-16h. Coming from the bionic, this is about 20% better. I agree with others to wait a few days for things to settle down.

Just turned off 4g to see what happens. I also had juice defender before and it really helped. Holding off on install for now just to see what the phone does on its own.

BTW I just returned my iPhone 4s for this phone. Battery life is almost identical. I was surprised.

You guys using the extended battery or stock?

I get 25% off of accessories and was wondering if I should get the charger and extra battery or the extended battery

Im still on the stock battery, but used my gift certificate to buy the extended one. Wont be here till next week though. The extra 250mAh will help a little bit ;)

I believe the extended battery is 50% off online and possibly in-store. It might be a regional thing though. I got mine 50% off in store day of release, but they said it was a 4g promotion they were running. Either way I would probably go with the extended, but that is just my opinion.

My battery drops really fast. It goes from 100 percent to 96 percent in 1 minute. Maybe I got a bad extended battery? I really hope it improves over time. Anyone else have this problem where the percent drops super fast?

I get 25% off accessories too, but I just logged into my account and checked the pricing for the extended battery. Before logging in the price was $50, after logging in, it was $37.50. Upon adding to cart, the price dropped to $25. I was hoping maybe they would take 25% off that, but $25 for an extended battery and cover isn't a bad deal!

The trick here is that they aren't showing the reduced price on the web site until you put it in your cart.

I placed the order and hopefully it will arrive middle of next week. (There wasn't an indication that it was out of stock).

I have been tweaking my phone since yesterday when I got just 8.5 hours out of it (4G on, bluetooth on), and I am trying without 4G, no bluetooth, Wifi on, and about 25% brightness. I left the phone on overnight and it dropped from about 80% to 60% in about 8 hours.

I also bought Battery Monitor Widget Pro (I had the free version for a while) and I am trying to monitor usage and see if it shows me any battery hogs. It is pretty cool - but kind of pricey ($4.50).

Shows graphs of battery %, mA draw, etc.

We shall see if it was $4.50 well spent.
