Wow, maybe this will be a pretty well debugged version.

I heard that it will be Kies only update. Is that still the case?

GB27 now available on sxtp developers [ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710 GB27 (GB27 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Root/Stock). I installed it yesterday and am seeing definite radio improvements which should hopefully translate to better battery life. I love the updates to Touchwiz (I know - not everyone loves TW).

If you decide to try it out, please be sure to read everything you can get your eyes on at SXTP and XDA first.

I'm still interested as to how did this Galaxy S2 variant not have received the 4.1.2 update like the other SII variants who have received the Jelly Bean update a few months ago.

This is a manual update. No one will send it to you, you have to download and perform it yourself. There is no OTA with this, the update is much too large.
