Official Signal Strength and Reception Thread

Re: low signal strength?

Well if this has the same radio as the charge will the signal improve? I would like it to be better. Has there been a tear down of the lte version to see if the radios are the same?

Re: low signal strength?

After reading this entire thread I am not entirely confident that the radio can be fixed with a baseband update. I compared the rzr and rez lte(I will go back to compare3g) today the rez at 68db the rzr at 75 and nexus in the 90s, its concerning.since I live in one those fringe areas between towers, a mile down the road the signal is better.

I need my phone for work so I cant live with the crappy reception which is to bad cause I really like the Nexus accept for the lack of swype.

Re: low signal strength?

Without question this is very disappointing to say the least but does this make me want to RETURN the device.....NO WAY WHAT SO EVER....I have always been a early adaptor that was me on day one for me EVO 4G, That was me on day one for my EVO 3D, and again it was me on day one for my GALAXY NEXUS that is what I do. There is to much to lose here by GOING BACKWARDS in the technology game you accomplish nothing GOING BACK. The Galaxy Nexus is the BEST ANDROID DEVICE ON THE MARKET and will be holding that title for the next 6 to 8months easily...Google/Samsung will take care of this issue soon.....:D

I do agree for the most part. There is no way in Hell I'm returning this phone for a skinned device with a locked bootloader that will have issues but won't receive a patch for weeks and/or months. As long as they get this fixed shortly I'll be happy. And even if they have to issue a hardware revision to fix it and I have to exchange for one of the newer ones, I'll do that.

Re: low signal strength?

That is the same info that I've been hearing. Additionally, the Charge was reviewed well by Anandtech with regards to it's LTE baseband. AnandTech - Samsung Droid Charge Review - Droid Goes LTE

That sure wasn't the experience I and many others had with the Charge. The Charge was infamous for the infamous message 'no data connectivity'. I was ready to throw that phone against the wall.

I'll say this though, even though my testing in-store of the Nexus vs all the other LTE phones showed the Nexus with FAR lower signal strength readings (up to 30db!), my reception experience thus far is still better than it was with the Charge, but not as good as the Rezound.

Yeah, I've never owned the Charge so I don't know. My best friend has the Charge, but I doubt he knows enough about the technology to give me an informative assessment as to it's data connection. I'm just going to be patient and wait for Google/VZ to address this. I'm on Wifi so much of the time that I can afford to wait.

The only app that I constantly use 4G for is NFL Mobile, and it doesn't even work right now on ICS. *facepalm*

Its interesting that you say you had a Rezound with a good signal and rare issues. I had one and just sold it because I got the Nexus. Overall the phone was great, but I lost 3G all of the time at work and we have repeaters for signal strength a throughout our building. I had the nexus there one day and never lost 3G. Now granted the signal on my phone looks very low or not to have one at all but it still worked each time I picked it up.

Kind of odd

I had a Charge and it was never good. My friend still has a Charge and received the big OTA update. His too is still not good. It's my experience with the Charge that makes me concerned about Samsung radios in terms of the hardware. Yes, hopefully an OTA update will help, but let's face it, from the many many reports, this radio needs a lot of help.

I had zero issues with the Rezound radio and very few issues with the Bionic's. The Bionic's radio was not as good as the Rezound, but still a lot better than the Nexus. With that said I like the Nexus better than any of them.

Re: low signal strength?

I'm going to have to give mine up. I can deal with the data dropping because I am around WiFi a good majority of the time, what I can't deal with is not being able to make a call. At home I have to walk outside just to make a call. I have never had this issue until I got the Nexus. I am sitting here right now going between 1 bar of 3G and no service at all while my wife has 5 bars of 3G on her Incredible 2. A friend of mine came over with his Bionic and my Nexus couldn't even make a call while he was surfing away sitting right next to me.

Very sad because when it is working it is a very nice phone, love the new operating system, but I really can't deal with not being able to place calls at home. :'(

Re: low signal strength?

some of you guys must really be living in a low signal area where you have to go out and make a call. My friend has a galaxy nexus and I get mine tomorrow. He has as many bars as my droid razr at work. I never did any speed test or signal readings because I didn't really have his phone for that long, but he said he had no problems with signal.

I've noticed that with 3G my signal is on par with what my DX was (solid 3-4 bars). But, with 4G I'm LUCKY if I get 2 and I get constant drops to 3G. So, for now, I've switched to using 3G and Wi-Fi until 4G gets at least a little better. No sense in wasting battery on an unreliable connection.

I've been robbed

I must have read 3 dozen reviews of the GN.
Not one of them mentioned that Samsung's radio was bad.
I live in a rural area. My droid always had 3 or so bars. Now i have zero.
Even Wifi is terrible compared to my droid x.
How can they sell a piece of crap like this?
It's going back.

At home, I'm getting 1-2 bars when normally I'd see 4-5. However, I have not had one dropped call or bad reception. Its strange. My 4G has been connected since I walked out of BB day one. Its only dropped to 3G once and it immediately reconnected to 4G. I'm hoping this is more of a software issue that can be remedied with an OTA. It's a great phone and it would be a shame for it to lose its glory over this...
