OK Google - Change default music player

When I'm in my car and player music through the cars Bluetooth I only have the play/FF/RW controls on the steering wheel, so the only way I have of choosing a specific song is to use the OK Google function on my android wear watch and say OK Google play xxxxx.

The big problem with this is it opens Google play music. I would like to be able to open Amazon Music as I have a prime membership and some of my music can only be played through the app.
Does anyone know how to change this, all the solutions I have looked at no longer seam to work in Marshmallow.

I'm not certain this will work but it sounds like Google Play Music is a default app. At some point in time you may have just clicked yes when it asked if you wanted to set it as a default. If that is the case you can go into your App Manager, from settings, select to view all apps, scroll to Google Play Music, open it and find the "Clear defaults" button. This will clear it of any association with other apps. The next time an app is opened that it was set as the default media player, that app will ask you to choose a default. Obviously pick the one you desire and you should be in business.

Sorry forgot to mention that I've already set the default player music player as something else. If I start playback of music from the car it does start the right default music app but as soon as I use OK Google it still opens Google Play Music even if another music app is running.

It's not a major problem as only a handful of the songs on my phone are from prime but it would be nice to be able to get it to work how I want it.

Sorry this is late, I don't have a lot of opportunities to get online outside of the app and it seems to miss notifications sometimes. OK enough excuses. I realize you say you've set another player as the default player, but you didn't say you went in and cleared the defaults for GPM. Perhaps GVS (Google Voice Search, commonly called "OK Google") uses Google products by default, but as much as they want you to use Google for everything, I can't imagine that everything is defaulted to Google from Google. I would recommend that you still attempt to clear the defaults for GPM and see if GVS still defaults to it. While it's old school and I have yet to see any apps in recent history that still require the user to go into the app and set defaults but if this doesn't work, you might poke around in the Google settings. There is the Google Settings "app", it's probably more of a portal but it shows up as an app icon in you app drawer, and then GVS has it's own settings inlet. I think they both lead to the same place but you might try entrance from each to be sure nothing is missed.
