Hey All,

Question for those of you who have the S7 Edge already (I have to wait until next week!)

I use an iPhone at the moment in the car and it is invaluable to be able to yell 'Hey Siri, Play Adele' or whatever and it just does it using a combination of Apple Music and my own library. I can do this when the screen is off and it is always listening.

I used an S6 Edge + for a few months last year and it drove me crazy not being able to do the same with OK Google.

For some stupid reason, Samsung had locked down the functionality that lets the phone listen and respond at any time. From memory, the screen had to be on for it to listen which meant constantly having to grab the phone when driving and hit the home key. While 'pure' Google phones like the Nexus 6P had this 'always on, listening' mode even when the screen is off, the S6 seemed a bit crippled. Only way to get around it was to have the phone plugged into a charger, I think. Which wasn't ideal.

I'm desperately hoping this has been fixed in the S7 Edge. Can anyone who has it please confirm whether OK Google works from anywhere even with screen off and locked just like the 6P?

Thanks!

I have a Note5 and as long as the phone is unlocked, the screen can be off, it is always listening to "OK Google".

Samsung never locked this feature, you just had to turn it on under "Language and Input ".

Another solution, while driving, hands off is is use Ultimate Car Doc. You can add the Ok Google to the screen.

Hope this helps.....

Actually, I tried it again on the S6 Edge Plus before and what happens is I have to press the home button, then say 'OK Google, play XXX' and what happens is it then cues up the song but only starts playing it when I swipe the screen to unlock.

What I want is to just get in my car, have it connect to my hands free by itself and then be able to talk to it without having to touch the phone or take my hands off the wheel. I can do this with the iPhone. But I'm guessing with an app like the above, the screen always has to be on or the app manually activated?

Make your car radio a trusted Bluetooth device. When it's connected it will keep it unlocked.
