Ok so I'm a recent iPhone convert jumping from a 6S to the Pixel 2. I like it a lot so far, but I'm in my car (2015 toyota sienna) a LOT and I used Siri all the time to send messages, set reminders, add to my calendar, etc. I assumed I'd be able to do the same using Google Assistant, but now I'm not sure I can.

Here's my issue...

In order to avoid having to use fingerprint/pin when using assistant I have it set up to be unlocked when it's connected to my car's bluetooth. When I have my car stereo set to bluetooth I hear GA just fine, but if I have it on XM or AM/FM radio then GA activates but with no sound. Since I can't hear it I don't know when it asks me to send text or confirm an appointment, etc.

I assume it's pumping through the bluetooth but when my radio isn't on bluetooth I won't hear it... pretty annoying since Siri used to just interrupt whatever I was listening to and responded through the speakers.

So my question is... can I either get my car's speakers to play GA's sounds or play out of the phone's speakers while still being connected to bluetooth?

Thanks for the help, I don't want to have to go back to Apple! Arrrrgh!

I have this issue with my Droid Turbo 2... so I'm inclined to believe it is an Android thing (or my car). If I run Google Maps while connected to Bluetooth, I have to be in "Media" to hear anything come through the stereo. I originally didn't notice it in the past, since I was usually listening to my music on my phone through Bluetooth, but my newest car came with a year of XM radio. Finally one day I used navigation while listening to XM and had no directions being called out through my stereo or the phone. It is kinda annoying since I have to decide if I want Bluetooth/my own music/directions out of stereo or XM/no Bluetooth/directions out of phone speakers. If I'm not using the GPS there is no dilemma for me.

That depends on the car's audio system - some can, some can't.

or play out of the phone's speakers while still being connected to Bluetooth?
Don't set the phone to switch to Bluetooth when you get into the car (in other words, turn Bluetooth off in the phone).
@BigRobi:
You might try SiriusXM in your phone - Maps may come through on top of the Sirius app.

Thanks for the reply... I thought about that one after I posted actually.

The issue with that is that I use my car's bluetooth as a trusted place so I can use GA on lock screen without entering pin/fingerprint. I tried using trusted voice but "enable Access and unlock" keeps getting turned off on me for some reason.
