Ok, now I get it... (CM10 that is.)

Oh yeah... I think that vicious ROM didn't separate gapps. Forgot about that.

Ok, I think I'm whole again. Turns out I may not be cut out for nightlies as it's a lot of work and consumed about 2 hours of my manual labor to bring things back to the way they were. Here's what I found out.

Once I installed CM10 and gapps I also had to go to the market and install:
- Maps
- Calendar
- Google+
- Play Books
- Play Movies + TV
- YouTube

Then, in Apex I had to go and change the icon from the green Android icon to the default icon. (Maybe if I had installed the above apps before restoring Apex things would have been fine, I don't know.)

Then, in calendar I had to reconnect with my company's corporate Exchange account and wait a while for the appointments to refresh.

In Touchdown I had to wait for all of my email to refresh. That's been going for about 45 minutes now and still loading.

And, for some odd reason, Tibu didn't backup "NFC Task Launcher." Now I have to go around and reprogram all the NFC tags I have in the building, at home and my car. That'll be fun.

I like the idea of playing with nightlies. But I think for me it'll be more like weeklies. Unless I can do it dirty.

Yeah, restore your launcher settings last. Then all will be well.

Crackflashing is indeed time consuming, and most of us that do it probably don't keep as many apps on our phones as the standard user. Partly because... it's a hindrance to crackflashing :p

You'll get the hang of it the more you do it, if you stick with it. Even when you're a seasoned vet though, you'll still make mistakes and have to fastboot stuff, adb push/pull files, or maybe even start over and flash stock images. But then, you get to share your war stories with the other crackheads and bump up your street cred ;)

OK. First a confession. Was a Palm Pre owner who jumped into Android in January on the GNEX on VZW in January. I'm a noob.

I've loved the GNEX, but got really excited when JB came out and wanted to get it NOW! Never took the plunge to root, but CM10 came out and I had to try it. Was a little struggle to get the windows drivers to recognize my device to unlock and update the bootloader, but got it working. Downloaded the first toro CM10 nightly and gapps and LOVED IT!!! At least twice a day, I check get.cm?device=toro to see if there is a new nightly. When I see it, all I do is:

  • Click the URL on the get.cm page, which downloads it to my phone
  • Reboot to Recovery
  • Wipe Cache and Davlik Cache
  • Install from the default download directory
  • Wipe Cache and Davlik Cache again
  • Reboot

It's been that simple. This is my only phone, so I need it to work. I've installed every nightly that's come out the past weeks, and none of them bricked my phone or affected my ability to call or access the network. I highly recommend it. JB and the tweaks from the CM team are AWESOME. Two iPhone fanboyz at work have been drooling on it for the past week and are considering skipping the 5 to get a GNEX or GS3. The notification and performance updates are amazing.

Now for a noob question - I'd like to provide feedback to the CM team when I find issues in the nightly builds. Is there a place to report? And does anyone publish a changelog, official or not?

- Mike
