okay google

hi friends. i just went from a V10 to a V20 and am having a hard time with okay google..

on my V10 i could say OK google when the screen is open on any app and often she would respond. to be honest it rarely worked.

now i have OK google set to respond anytime and she still rarely works. worse there's this new google assistant i didn't have on the V10 that usually opens up a dialogue window that i often can't even see. its super annoying and never works when i need to (i e while driving).

i can adapt to simply hitting the microphone within the persistent google search bar. but does it sound like i am doing something glaringly wrong?

also i use nova launcher which also has google hotword set on under "gestures and inputs"...are they conflicting??

You can turn off Assistant by opening the Google app, tapping Menu>Settings>Google Assistant Settings>Phone, then turn off the Google Assistant toggle.

Power-saving modes might interfere with the always-listening feature -- do you have any turned on, or a 3rd party power-saving app installed?

good question. i dont have any 3rd party power savers installed. nor have i selected any power saving modes but i'll double check now. also i believe i tried disabling the google assisitant before but that affected ok google. i'll try again thank you!

I don't have a setting for Google Assistant in the Google settings area...?

its actually in the google app. open that then settings then google assistant and so on...

I had problems with getting "Okay Google" to respond and I installed an app called Volume Control which has made it alot more responsive.
