Old chat changed number

Hello
A friend of mine changed her phone number and he whatsapp number too, and when she sent me a message it opened a new chat.
Is there a way to keep the old chat going with her new number?

The only way I could think to do this is to invite the new number to the chat as an additional participant. I'm no Whatsapp expert (I've used it for two one-week stints a year apart and was only using it for a group chat) so I'm not entirely certain that this will work.

I'll see if we have someone else that can confirm or refute my theory but above all else make sure you have a backup of your chat before you do ANYTHING if it's that important to you.

there is no option to add a participant to a private chat. you can only make a new group in WhatsApp. can't think of an option for you

take the old phone number and the new one and list them under the same contact name

Instead of having say Peter Vodafone and Peter MTN, you can have just one contact with the 2 numbers

Then his should reflect in whatsapp as well after some time

that's a great idea but, i have people in my contacts who have two WhatsApp numbers and the two chats don't merge, understandably

I don't think it's a doable thing, BUT if anyone can get it done, it's Whatsapp support!
