Re: Skelp

He's correct just scrap it now within a month the fickle consumers will forget it and move on

Re: S7 Edge or Note 5?

I'm in the same exact position as you... Exchanged original note 7 for a silver S7E, loved the phone but not the color... So when the new note 7s were released I went back to it... Hopefully I can get a black S7E now with all this nonsense
The gold isn't bad, looks nice with the black OtterBox (open screen design)

Re: Skelp

Samsung needs to investigate all these cases to at least confirm the battery issue still exist and not fraud cases out to tarnish Note 7. If it's true, time to chop off the limb.

Re: Time to switch

If it's a voluntary recall, I might keep it. If it's not, then no choice will return it as they will remotely cripple it like the first time.

Re: Other alternatives

I was just asking if you guys had any other suggestions of a different phone if they were to recall the phone again.

If I absolutely must trade it in and they are not going to fix my current N7. The closest would be a S7 edge. But I will most likely just hold onto it till the S8 comes out then trade it.

re: What replacement phone are you considering or have you already chosen?

The V20 will not have a ' lesser' screen.

I had an Elephone P9000 and the thin film LCD was SUPERB. It was in most ways better than Samsungs Amoled. For a start whites where pristine white and colour reproduction more natural. All mostly due to the new LG thin film displays. Everything seems to float right on top of the display.

Samsungs Amoleds have about a millimeter of glass above it, probably with a gap in between.

Wait till you hold one before jumping to conclusions.

While I'm quite used to the AMOLED displays, the brief time I spent using a V20 yesterday I thought the LCD was pretty impressive.

Re: Other alternatives

There many alternative but it still all fall under your carrier if they support it. Then there the following choices of what you prefer.

Display Size
IR?
expandable mem
Design style
removable battery
optional stylist
water proof
shock proof
OS with or without unlock BL
Camera spec
Audio spec
USB type

I for one looking for Sprint, large enough display, audio quality, USB-C, Expandable mem, "hardware good enough to play my videos that have 1080hi10 flac encodes" with no lag, if there no special software on it I do look into rooting it like samsung knox, and uhhhh... the shock/water proof things... I can just put a case on it so that blah...

So with that in mind I do have my eye on the V20 but I did catch my eye on the htc 10 again till I reconsider the screen size. Asus Zen deluxe have no Sprint so that a bummer. Note 7 halt production and now I dont think a nice promo will help... All the other random name phone I just starting to learn about dont have sprint so ehhhhh.... but if they do I'm not familiar with their name

Re: S7 Edge or Pixel XL as a Replacement

Whuu? Half the internal storage, no hardware display scaling, weaker lowlight pics, a more pronounced curve that distorts video and web pages more, and is more sensitive to accidental presses on edges.

Got to respectfully disagree.

For one the S7 Edge hasn't been a complete nightmare like the Note 7 so we can start there before we get into any of the features.

Re: S7 Edge or Pixel XL as a Replacement

"Weaker lowlight pics"
I thought they have the exact same camera with similar post-processing...

Reviews that compared have pointed out lower light pics are better on the N7. Also the display was better overall.

re: What replacement phone are you considering or have you already chosen?

Personally, I feel that the V20 would be the better phone, as you are getting more for your money. Although I am not a Samsung user, I think that the Note series is the best phone you can buy hands down. The Pixel's cost cannot be justified if you are looking at features to price, and I believe that's where you need to look

Re: Skelp

Most people weren't even hurt, burnt phones incidents are all consistent looking. (burnt phone). I highly doubt it's fraud, not much to gain here, they would be better of stealing a candy bar from 7 Eleven if they wanted to hustle something free.

LG V20 or Google Pixel?

You are all right in some aspects. The 820/821 are same fab process. The 821 is probably the final milking of that design to optimize money. The tech supported could be bridged so would be common to both chips, but marketing and product differentiation (for money) is a factor. There are hardware differences though as part of the differentiation.

The next big update is 10nm. This is needed to make 4K feasible and VR is driving this. No VR, no quest for 4K at the moment. Samsung knows the key to the real VR boom is to get rid of the screen door effect and keep the devices from overheating.

They also know amoled is the best option due to power efficiency, contrast and latency, but has bad screen door compared to LCD at same res. Catch is LCD is a battery sucking demon at 1440p or higher, since the array design powers all of the display. Amoled can activate only the needed coordinates on the display.

Re: Time to switch

Samsung and the wireless providers will disable the phones if people don't return them. The last recall was evidence of that by shorting the battery life to 60%. Sorry it's hard for you to understand but safety is first and they will do what they have too to protect the human race.

Charging a phone to 60% isn't disabling the phone....not being able to "use" the phone is "disabling" it. And alot of people have no problem not updating their phone to even get that 60% battery limit. Look, they only recovered 80% of the original Note's. So I guess the other 20% makes the Human race still unsafe. Here we go again with the "Drama" effect. I guess it's hard for me to understand y they haven't totally disabled and crippled the 20% of Note's that is still out there. Do you have the answer? I mean 20% out of about 2.5 million phones out there? That's alot of original Note 7's among the human race. Oh, let's not forget now the other 80% of replacements that are exploding. U need to stay inside because you don't know if your neighbor or your co-worker has one, that might explode anytime soon around u....
Geez! LOL....
Alright I lied the first time. Now I am done for real with this discussion.

This is exactly what I've boiled my choices down to if we have to give up our N7's. I was wondering how the gold would look in a black OtterBox Symmetry case. The black N7 in a black OtterBox Symmetry is a fine looking phone.

I'm choosing with my husband in mind because he is using an S6 right now and about ready to upgrade. So I'm going to pick a phone that he will take once the new Notes (7 or 8) are available. He covers his up in a Defender so doesn't care about color.

re: What replacement phone are you considering or have you already chosen?

Looking to get my hands on both of these phones.

At the moment, the Pixel seems very overpriced for the feature set and design, as far as I can tell by looking at it over the 'net. Support from Google is likely to be good, but it's the VZW gatekeeper I worry about.

The LG certainly has more really useful features, but I am not convinced about battery life and on-going support of LG phones. I loved my G2, but it certainly did fall off the radar really fast.

This is a good discussion here on these two phones as a "move-to" platform after surviving the N7.

I wonder if Samsung will try to extend some olive branch to us that will make this Pixel/V20 choice go away? Not sure I'd be interested in an upgrade path next Spring or next Summer to a new Samsung phone, and my having to use some "loaner" in the mean time. I am unfortunately far too impatient for that!

Re: S7 Edge or Note 5?

What even sucks more it that I have bought all new USB C cables, and quite a few cases for the Note 7. Mine has been fine and I really don't want to get rid of it, it never has gotten warm.

Heh.

I bought 2 cases (one clear, one black) from Amazon in the days before the recall was announced.

After exchanging my N7 for a "safe" replacement, I ordered a bunch of USB C cables, again from Amazon. They arrived on the same day that the first N7 caught fire on the Southwest plane.

That's the way Murphy works. :D

Last night I plugged in my n7 to charge. It was just about done so I jumped on and started a video on you tube. I fell asleep with the phone in my lap while in the sofa. I woke up hearing the voice of the video. Phone was at 100% but hot. Checked gsam battery and temp was 98.

I love this phone. I hate to get rid of it but I'm preparing myself to do so if I must. I never get an amazing phone... I usually get the free ones so this is a first for me and of course this happens. :(

My next issue is I will probably get a v20. I don't have a replacement phone since we just switched to at&t so I want to wait till I get just swap it. I also got it at best buy so I'm hoping local at&t store will take care of me when the time comes.... if it comes. I still am hanging on a thread of hope for the n7. :(

I'm going to miss that s pen
