On Android 4.2.2 and rooted - How to upgrade/Should I upgrade?

I'm rooted, but not using a custom ROM. I'm finding that I'm so far behind now that there are some apps I can't use and it may be creating some other issues. What's the best way to upgrade? Should I go all the way to the most current? Can I jump from 4.2.2 to the most current or do I need to upgrade incrementally?

What phone are you using?

Questions might be easier to answer if we get this thread in the phone forum instead of the carrier forum.

You wouldn't need incremental upgrades but you would need to unroot.
