On my Note 10 with Android Version 10, why does dark mode turn itself off?

[Android Central Question]

I activate dark mode via pull-down menu in the morning and sometime in the afternoon or the next morning, it reverted back to the standard mode with white background. I have to again select dark mode.
Does dark mode stay on even after rebooting the phone? Is there a screen setting that interferes with dark mode?
