S5 mini....proximity sensor...screen goes black when making a call

Hi Folks
can any of you point me in the right direction....

I want to adjust or disable the proximity sensor.

At the moment when I hit the call button the screen goes black even if its not by my ear....this is annoying when u want to use the number pad (say with a call centre) or when using the internal speaker as a hands free device...

So need to find out is this normal...and where and what adjutments/settings are there....on this phone.

Thanks for your help and comments

Hello Fritz, welcome to the forums at Android Central! 🙋

Some people had a similar issue with the GS4, there was a thread about it.
I remember most of them, if not all, on that thread fixed it by blowing air from a can to the speaker grill by the sensors. Heck, there even were some people that had it fixed after using the vacuum!

Try that trick with a can of compress air and let us know if it works for you. It might be software or a defect.
Did you always have this problem?

Whey Hey! Well done Android Central! V aggravating screen going dark without even putting the phone to my ear: Your suggestion of blowing on the speaker grill worked a treat. Who would have ever thought of that? Not me, anyway! Good work. Thank you for taking away frustration.
