I tried rooting my stock photon 4g with OCR and i got "server not running" and then under every part it says "error: device not found" and at the bottom it says "you should have root!"

It didn't give me root. My phone is still working, it just booted it up.

I had usb debugging enabled, charge only on, drivers installed and and the OCR file extracted to the desktop.

The only weird thing was it said "shout out to bliss" and not "shout out to edgan" like qbking77 had in his video (got my file from the same place) and my file just said 'root' not 'root.bat'

Anyone please HELP me i tried it twice and i want to get it rooted. Im running the 45.3.6 and 2.3.4, the latest update

I have a picture but idk how to upload it

1) It's all good...don't panic
2) Uninstall and reinstall Motorola Drivers (5.2.1?) I think
3) Plug phone in let it install completely and successfully
4) screw the OCR method if it didn't work for you
5) Read this - How To Root Motorola Photon 4G Without Dock [Guide] - It works, I am updated to 45.3.7 on build 198_7 (leaked update) and have rooted using this method..it's easy

Hey Shabby, sorry didn't mean to insult/blame you..and didn't mean to implicate OCR as the culprit. I just wanted to give this dude another method.

I experience the same problems. After several attempts i finally gave up. My problem is since i did that my phone drops call all the time and the mic is muffled.

my question is, how do i remove any files that may have been put on the phone. i was thinking of hard restarting the phone but if it put the files on my sd card this would not correct the problem.

I use my phone for business and its hard with so many dropped calls.

I dont know for sure if this is what caused the problem it just happened about the same time i attempted this.

thank you for any input.

There is no way that rooting caused dropped calls and a "muffled mic." Rooting just pushes su and superuser. If anything, try a hard reset and reflash the sbf file.

I hear you man...the devs do a lot of hard work and don't get a lot of credit..to see this I am sure makes you a bit annoyed, and it's hard not to take these things personally..I'm sure I would feel the same way. Hats off to you guys though for keeping at it.. ;)

Did you try basic things like rebooting both your computer and phone, using a different usb port, and using a different cable? Sometimes it's the little things that make a huge difference. For instance, I couldn't root my Photon the first time. It was plugged into the wall and not my computer.

I restarted my computer after installin the drivers and OCR rebooted my phone both times i tried.

I used a different usb port...both work when i use usb mass storage so i know they work.

And the cable is good. I use it for pdanet and tht works fine.

Still could be a driver issue though or my phone needs a battery pull

What gets me is tht my computer finds my phone through usb mass storage and vice versa. And when in charge only or usb my phone can tell ots plugged in...YET my phone cant be found while tryin to root ha..beats me...maybe my moms computer will work..shabbypenguin is gona help me out with this problem so if its resolved ill let u guys know

I had the same issue today. Here is what I did :

1. Reboot PC
2. Do not open anything
3. Set phone to mass storage
4. Plug phone in, wait for computer to install it
5. Open one click
6. Press enter at first prompt
7. At next prompt, set phone to charge only
8. Wait a minute
9. Press enter
10. From here one click got past the device not found errors.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input Matt (think202) , ill try it later. On number 3 ..you can't set the phone to usb mass storage until its plugged in. and then on number 4 you say to plug in the phone ( but it would have already plugged into the computer from step 3 according to you)

And on number 4, what are you referring to installing? the drivers? If so should i uninstall and then install the drivers? I thought a reboot was necessary after installing drivers?

Should the phone be in mass storage or charge only when installing drivers?

Thank you.

I did not really think there was a way it could effect it but i am a novice at best at this sort of thing and it was just coincidental on how it happened about the same time. And as i sat here trying to figure it out that was just one idea that popped in my mind.

I hope i made no one upset with my question, i ment no harm. And if you were offended please accept my apologies

Hey man thanks for the help..I got my Photon 4G ROOTED!!!

though i didnt do exactly as you said because you werent very clear your advice led to my success..so thanks!

Here is what i did:

1. set the phone to usb mass storage and then unplugged it
2. started OCR and plugged the phone in and pressed enter
3. turned the phone to charge only at next prompt and made sure usb debugging was on
4. started OCR..still think it said "server not running" but it rooted my phone

I also did some precautionary measures:
1. turned off everything in my norton firewall
2. re installed drivers with phone not plugged in and then plugged it in and put it in "usb mass storage" and "charge only" to finish installation
3. connected phone through usb mass storage with "usb debugging" off and then turned it back on
4. re extracted rooting files ( before it didnt let me overwrite the adb files but this time it did)
5. did some reboots on the phone and computer

Thanks for the ideas man.
and Thanks to everyone else who contributed to this problem.

Sorry I didn't get back to you and wasn't very clear. Been down and out with the flu. However I'm glad I was somewhat helpful!

Thanks for following up with the clarifications! That should help anyone else who comes across this error.

Thanks again,

Matt

hey shabby im doin da one click method but its not giving me the same things dat happen in da video. i been trying it for a while now

Quick FYI for 1st timers that is frequently missed & required.

•? Be sure to:

•? Enable USB debugging on your phone by going to Settings > Applications > Development and check marking USB Debugging.

•? You can do this 1st before doing anything else and leave it enabled, do not disable at anytime later.

•? Follow guides as written, DL root apps from market before hand, ie root checker, superuser, titanium backup, etc and checkout a lot more goodness @ xda

Once u go root you will neva want to go back! :)

Hope that helps others
