I have just completed my first week with the Verizon HTC One and here is what I think...

WOW! I don't compliment lightly (especially being a former Thundercrap owner) but this thing ROCKS! Here's my take:

1. I was able to use this phone outside in the bright sunlight. Repeat, I was able to use this phone outside in the bright sunlight. I used the highest setting. I was so impressed I did everything I could to find an app that I couldn't see. I texted, I took notes, I even looked at pictures in my gallery and saw the colors loud and clear.

2. I can get a signal at home where no other phone has been able to. Not my Rezound, my friends S3's, the iphones, Note 2, etc. While I still get some sketchy calls and drops and it is by no means great, it works! My standard practice was to go on call forwarding to my home phone when home to make sure I didn't drop calls. Today I had a 10 minute call before I realized it was actually working, and loud, and clear.

3. The FRONT Speakers, The FRONT Speakers, The FRONT Speakers!!! With the speaker in the back I had the choice to lay the phone on its back and not hear the rings/notifications, or to put it on the screen side (duh right) so speaker side it was. Now I can hear it loud and clear even in the other room. I use speakerphone a lot and this is awesome. I don't have to keep flipping the phone over and holding the speaker to my ear! BTW, the music sounds great coming from it (for a cell phone, lets be realistic). As a Pink Floyd fan that's my test music and it sounded great.

4. For me battery life has been great. I do see it drop a bit if I forget to turn off wifi before I leave home. I guess it keeps searching and wasting power. Otherwise its way better than my TB or Rezound were and suits my needs. I go to sleep after 12 - 18 hours off the charger with 65-85% left depending on what I do.

5. I havent used ZOES much so I cant comment yet but the regular camera finally works. On all my other HTC phones the cameras sucked. sucked. sucked. With this phone when I take a picture of the blue sky it stays blue, not purple.

6. Its BLUE! ( At least mine is, I bet your jealous yours isn't ;)

7. And most special of all, the true value was it was $49.99 not $199.99, $250.00, $600.00, or whatever. A great phone but not worth that price. But def worth $49.99. (No rants about hidden included costs in contract, etc. please :)

Its not too late to hit Best Buy for this gem, Id go tomorrow if I were you!
:D

Honestly, for $49.99, it's a steal! I agree with everything that you have said, especially about the front speakers and the battery life. I did notice that my 4G LTE reception where I live is not as good as it was on my S3. However, my 3G reception for calls is better in the same location.

Is $49 a steal to have to keep it for 2 years? I did the edge upgrade knowing that in 6mo I'll probably get a new device... So I'm paying $25mo for that freedom to do so...

This is my question about the 25$ a month program. How long do you pay 25$ a month? Is this a 2 year plan? If you upgrade in 6 months do you then apply 25$ dollars more making it 50$ a month? Just curious

$25 a month is for two years, first payment is due upfront. You can upgrade after 6 months but at least 50 percent of the phone must be paid off to do so.

So if you pay off (example) 300$ of a 600$ phone within 6 months you can then upgrade and not be responsible for the remaining balance? If thats the case it seems to be a decent way to go

Wait... $50 for two years is a bad deal compared to $300 just to be able to upgrade in six? (actually, the math says that is 12 months, but I assume you can pay a lump sum) So you have to buy half a phone and then give it back, right? That is essentially like leasing a car. You can only consider it a "deal" if you are already spending a lot of money on buying new cars...

I wonder what the sale price on a used HTC One will be this time next year...

That all being said I got a One for $50 this weekend. So far I'm so very in love it makes me giddy. I've stopped using my Nexus 7 for videos because the sounds is sooooo nice with the One.

.....also, it's not a deal if you had to give up your unlimited data.

From what Verizon's agreement says, you cannot pay more than the subsidy prior to the six month mark. After that, pay the remaining of half the cost of the phone then upgrade. You can get out of the agreement at anytime by paying the balance in full.

Not to mention if the phone has its nicks and scratches Verizon will make you pay whatever remains if you want to upgrade.

I have only had this phone for a day, a full 24 hours and wow! I didn't think I could love a phone just as much as my Note II, but it has been near perfect! No lag whatsoever! Battery life has been good but then again, coming from an iPhone initially, I'm used to being around or carrying a charger anyway.

People talk down on the beats equalizer but when I listened to all of my different headphones on the One vs. using them all on my Note WITH poweramp.

I never hated touchwiz but Sense 5 has to be the smoothness Google envisioned when they came up with Project Butter. Not having a home button is an adjustment but not a headache. Not to mention that technically I got my BRAND NEW One for $20 ;)

My One is smooth, and like you I prefer Sense 5 to TouchWiz. My only request would be to have the option to remove Blink Feed from one of the screens.
