One X, SIII, or Iphone 5

The CEO of Foxconn says the new iPhone will put the SIII to shame. That's strong words and maybe he's right.

That's bold of him to say. His company builds the iPhone, so when you bring up the competition in a comparison, kind of makes you look weak.

The HOX multitasking is way different from the Aria. I was loading an AC article earlier than tabbed away to search something so instead of the AC article to finish loading, it had to start over when I came back. So it's better to just let a site fully load before you leave it, I know it sounds so insignificant but little things can build up after a while.

And I should know, I came from an Aria too! The HOX is a huge improvement despite having little things that can be annoying.

A fellow Aria user! I think I've only ever met a couple people in person, that have an Aria. It's been a good first android phone for me, but I'm more than ready for an upgrade after 2 years of reading AC.

First of all, you've already bought a bunch of apps. Switching platforms is a good way to cost you money re-buying, whereas with the HOX or SG3 you get to use the apps you already purchased. That's enough to toss the iPhone option (besides the fact that you're on an Android forum heh).

Bottom line: handle both phones first. You really can't go wrong with either one, but it's going to be a matter of personal taste. Handle the ACTUAL phones and use the UIs: don't just hold a dummy device.

Tis true. I have purchased a bunch of apps on android like Power Amp and SlideIT, (neither of which are on ios) not to mention all of the free apps I've gotten from the Amazon app store like ezPDF Reader and Wolfram Alpha.

I do plan on handling both phones before I buy one. I only held a dummy Htc One X, but i'm pretty sure that the Att store and Best Buy should have both phones on display. Thanks for the advice!

I think Iphones are really overrated, especially when compared to Android phones, where you can see much higher specifications, bigger screens and now better cameras (once ruled by Apple) on the current generation. Yes, you do get that polished Apple experience, but it comes at the price of getting stuck in their ecosystem, incurring higher than normal subsidies on the carriers and being forced to accept all of Apple's guidelines strictly.

That is probably not going to change even with a better, faster Iphone, because Apple's design philosophies will likely never change. Most of the friends use the Iphone because it's their first smartphone and they don't know better.

For them, going into unfamiliar grounds in terms of other operating systems can be a daunting thing. But if you are fresh, just get into Android and stay there. Learn from the ground up.

Strong words indeed... in fact sounding a bit desperate. We'll have to wait and see. All the rumors and leaks around the iPhone 5 could end up being rubbish (as were all around the SGS3), so maybe Apple truly surprises us all, but I highly doubt it. I mean, we already know what iOS 6 has to offer, and it only put Apple to shame.

Hardware, while important, is certainly not as critical as a good OS, plus technology today really does not go that much further than what the SGS3 has to offer. I don't see ANY device offering anything that puts either the SGS3 or the HOX to shame in the next 12 months. The mobile phone market today is no longer what it was 3 or 4 years ago, it's way more mature, and there is no room anymore for such big surprises. In addition, Apple culture is that of steadily improving their devices, not drastically changing things to the point where their users can lose track.

Last but not least, if we look at the history of iPhone releases, it is easy to see how progress was less and less significant with each release. The jump from iPhone 1 to 2 was huge, but we all know what 4 to 4S was... Can Apple break free from its own boundaries and outrun the competition? I highly doubt it.

Spent a weekend with the sg3 before choosing the onex quad core. As mentioned the sg3 felt plastic, light, flimsy. Removing the back cover was a scary experience. Kept waiting for it to snap. The hox screen is better the feel of the phone is far superior. For me just a better overall experience. Zero issues with the phone. A happy camper.

Iphone 5 really needs to be a huge overhaul at this point to really impress me from my HOX, but can that be achieved within an update cycle? Seems unlikely, doesn't it?

I basically choose one x as I use the phone to read a lot. Mainly forum browsing with tapatalk, PDF and pub files. That's why screen clarity is important.

Cannnot stand screen on s2 thus I think for s3 will be the same. For iphone4 screen is too small for PDF reading.

The SG3 is the best phone I've ever owned. Not buying the SG3 because you read a lot of PDF files is ridiculous. You can read text equally well on the SG3 as any other phone. Anyone who thinks the difference in the screen between the HOX and the SG3 would prevent them from reading text is grasping at straws to defend the HOX. The SG3 multitasks flawlessly, is extremely fast, has an excellent camera and the gesture features are well thought out. You can take a screen shot by merely passing the edge of your hand on and over the screen. On the HOX I tested you had to push two buttons to take a screen shot. A minor point I know but an example of a better thought out UI. The stay awake feature has already proved a bonus while I've been showing the phone to friends. As far as being flimsy: that's a subjective issue: I find the SG3 perfectly solid for my less than careful handling. One only has to look at the number of complaints in the HOX forum and compare that to the lack of complaints in the SG3 forum to see the difference in phones. I highly suggest that if you can get the SG3 do so, you will not be disappointed. Anyone who is seriously considering an iPhone 5 won't be swayed by rational arguments so I won't try.

One has only to notice that the HOX has been on the market a lot longer than the GS3, which has only barely come out in some places, to realize that a lack of reported problems only signifies a lack of purchases, and not a lack of problems. In about 2-3 weeks it'll be different, since the GS3 will have started to penetrate on all the carriers.

The multi-tasking problem was discussed immediately when the HOX was released. Also, a quick review of the forum revealed a multi-tasking problem thread as far back as May 27th. The SG III was released in Europe May 29th and no issues approaching the HXO multi-tasking debacle have arisen.

May27 would be well after the HOX was released in the US. The GS3 has been available for two days on the smallest major carrier in the USA: T-Mobile. ANd at that it's only been available at "select retail outlets" which means most people haven't gotten them yet. So again, try making the comparison when the phone is actually available.

Removable battery on the S3 is honestly priceless. I'm not sure why HTC didn't make it removable on the One X. I love HTC phones and have been using them since the Touch was 'cool' but I would not buy the One X over the S3 solely because of the battery issue. Both are stellar phones. You could get the new iPhone but I believe you would be much more satisfied with the S3 or the One X. Just be certain the lack of a removable battery is something you can handle if you get the One X.

Honestly if you can wait for I the new iPhone I would do so. Just to see what it offers and by then if you waited that long then you should probably check into the new nexus device(s) to see the new features them. I'm pretty dissapointed I went with the skyrocket in January when I could have gotten the one x or s3 later on. I have learned that the more patient you are the better phone you will have. I'm kinda hoping that one of the nexus devices ends up on at&t just to see how at&t will handle "stock" android.

That's not immediate at all, I got my HOX on launch on Apr 5th.

It was nearly a month after release did the multi tasking get mentioned on the international version , and htc have stated its not broken, this is just how it works on the HOX.

I haven't had any problems, the fact the app has to refresh when you go back to it, doesn't effect anything.

The battery on the HOX is great, HTC wanted a one piece body for design aspects, maybe Samsung didn't want that, but it's still user preference.

Battery banks can still be plugged in anyway if you ever need a top up and not near an outlet.

I owned both the first 2 versions of the galaxyS series, and I never removed the battery or bought a 2nd one. - I understand some people might, but it's not something the majority of users will do.

So, based on that - a sexy, more premium-feel phone is for me the better option.

.....

But, we are talking about large touch screen phones here, and the biggest feature of both is the screen, and the HOX is by far, the much better screen.

Since you obviously don't have a clue as to the availability of the SII you really don't have the tools necessary to discuss this.
