OnePlus 3 or G5?

Yes it sounds like a ridiculous question I know, but hear me out. I'm planning on getting one of these devices the next time I come to Singapore, and the price is within SGD 100 (~USD 80) of each other. The OnePlus 3 boasts a bigger display, battery and better design IMO, but the G5 has a removable battery, a big-name company behind it, and a standard one-year warranty (the OP3 is sold through a third-party reseller as an imported unit). The resale value is also bound to remain higher if I buy the LG product. What do you guys think? Or maybe the Huawei P9, which is in the same price range, but with a 2-year OEM warranty?

Actually the OP3 is also highly regarded and it's value has remained strong. I have had several strong offers for mine including a S7 offered in trade! The OP3 is also very root/rom friendly, and OP has stated unlocking the bootloader in no way voids your warranty. (Of course the way you are purchasing I'm not sure about how the warranty works). I have not owned a G5, but in general I'm not a big LG fan (other than their TVs). I am however an OP fan having owned the OP1, 2 and now 3. The phones work great, and are VERY well made!

There is just flat-out no warranty in this case from the Singapore shop. I also have the option of purchasing online from my home country, which states that there is a 1 year warranty that applies only in China, which makes me suspect it might be the Chinese version (is A3000 international or China).

What he said!

But jokes aside, here are somethings to consider for the LG G5.
Camera is better on the LG G5.
OS updates might be better, OP has kinda been a bit too slow in this regard.
One con is that the battery though removable is smaller capacity.

Huawei P9 (my comments are based on the Honor 8 which is quite similar)
Pros - Hardware, camera, battery life, radio signal. Phone is built beautifully. Warranty is great.
Cons - EMUI takes a bit of getting used to. Screen is okay not great.

The OnePlus 3 is an incredible phone. I have one myself and have been using it for a while. However, you have said that warranty is very important to you so in that case it might be better to go with the G5. I think it will really depend on what is most important to you in a phone. The OnePlus 3 is an all around better device than the G5, but if OnePlus doesn't offer any warranty options in Singapore, then that may be your determining factor.

Small correction: OnePlus doesn't sell in Singapore. It's from a third-party reseller.

Anyway, I'd like to clarify something: the device I buy is not one I plan on keeping for long. I plan to keep either device for approximately 8 to 12 months, and I am only buying a device as my S7 took in water and became damaged. I think that while its at the moment running well, it may grow problems in the future, and I'd prefer to sell it now and get another device rather than deal with the headaches on that phone. Both of these run for what a used S7 goes for where I live, so I'll get a new device at no cost to me.

If you enjoyed your S7, then I would seriously recommend a Huawei Honor 8, pretty much same in size and same price as a OP3.

I seriously enjoyed the S7, and I really wouldn't get rid of it if I could, but unfortunately given the circumstances, that's not possible. Honor 8 isn't available in SEA at the moment, unfortunately.

Actually, I do have an option of getting the Galaxy S7 for approximately 100 USD more than what both of these run for, but it would put me on an S7 from Samsung Singapore, who is famously slow to update its phones. Believe it or not, Samsung Indonesia has a much better track record.

In my opinion, those are three very good options.

Practically speaking, it sounds like the G5 is a safe bet if you count the company's backing, resale value, removable battery, etc.

However, the OP3 is also a really good device and could also serve you well. And the P9 is sick, too - I did some research on that phone recently.

Perhaps look at it this way: which phone, once purchased, would make you happiest for an extended period? Which one would suppress the "upgrade itch?" Or which one would best suit your needs?

Let us know what you decide!

I have owned the G5 for 4 months now and still can't put it down. For someone to say that the OP3 is flat out better is pretty bold. I'd like some proof.

For starters, the camera is NOT better. Just look at the aperture size. The G5 in my opinion takes the best photos of all the flagship phones but picture taking is really subjective. It also takes phenomenal low-light pics. The deal breaker for me is that second wide-angle shooter. It's so fun to use and you can use them together as well as separate. Pretty cool and a lot of fun. All the flagship phones take really good photos.

The specs of the two devices are identical except the two more gigs of ram in the OP3.

The screen in the OP3 is amoled sure but lacking in pixel density. But I don't think your eyes can even tell the difference. The amoled screens are usually over saturated.

The battery is only 2800mah but it lasts all day for me. Besides, you can swap it out if need be. But, trust me. You won't need to. The G5 has the quick-charge 3.0 but I'm sure the OP3 has it also. Screaming fast charging. So the battery is not an issue.

The G5 has SD card support up to 2tb. They only make cards up to 200gb anyway. But the OP3 does not have this. With the G5 you can either put in an SD card or use the slot for a second Sim.

All the snapdragon 820's have FM radio capabilities but most don't activate it. The G5 has it activated but not in all devices. I think the carriers disable it in some... Like mine. Wah...!

One of my favorite features of the G5 is the IR Blaster. Really useful. I'm not sure if the op3 has it or not. I'm guessing not.

So...

Two gigs of ram make it better? I don't think so.

Good luck choosing. Both devices are pretty amazing.
