OnePlus 5 or Samsung S8+

Awesome, if you opt for the u11, use code AmazingU11 and you get it for $599. IMO, the u11 seems to be the best android phone of the year so far. Ill confirm once I receive it.
I have not decided but if I do return the op5, I hope return process isn't so bad.

Currently have both the normal S8 and OP5, I did though have the 8+ for a while. Despite the obvious advantages of the S8 I am torn.

Here are my thoughts

For the S8

- Feels great in the hand. No question better than the OP5
- The screen, no contest here.
- Camera. It is slightly better and has ois too
- water resistant. Ok it seems that the OP may be secretly IP67 and all I care about really is getting caught in the rain. Would never take the S8 swimming for example
- Wireless charging
- SD card support. IMO the OP5 would be way more attractive if they went the hybrid sim tray route and gave us a choice.

For the OP5

- Fingerprint sensor location. It is shocking on the S8 (more so as I am a lefty) and remains the most probable reason I will eventually ditch the S8. It is btw even more awkward on the 8+
- Battery is better (especially standby time)
- Stock (ish) android I also have more confidence we will see O much sooner than on the S8. It has been my experience that Samsung phones feel less current the longer you have them
- Dual cameras. It is a nice feature
- More built in storage (I have the 128gb version)
- Feels more robust. Have already dropped it once and compared to the S8 I have less fear that a 1ft fall onto a pile of pillows will shatter it into a million pieces!

I had the S8 Plus for a little bit and recently sold it and got the LG G6. I have never had a One Plus device but here is my take on the S8/S8 Plus:

Pros:

Premium feel
Gorgeous display
SD 835

Cons:

Edge display glares
Slight lag/sluggishness
Fingerprint sensor is in the most ridiculous place

Personally, i think the S8 Plus is a gorgeous device and MOST will be fine with. I was fine with everything MINUS the glare from the edges of the screen.

I currently have the S8+ and the OP5 and actually ordered the LG G6 Unlocked US version yesterday during Prime Day. The S8+ was very close to being the perfect phone for me but a couple of things are holding it back, well actually only one thing, speed and lag. I am even eyeing the HTC U11 and Essential phone. I can't find the perfect Android phone for me right now (might have to wait for the Pixel 2)

S8+ Pro's:

Screen
Design
SD Card Support
Nice Software Features (Youtube app gets nice and bright, dual bluetooth connections, good bluetooth sound management, app locker, GIF creator)
Camera

S8+ Con's:
Speed
Needs more RAM/Bad RAM Management
Fingerprint Sensor
QC 2.0 isn't that great (especially while using the phone)
Phone overheats during charging and navigation in Texas (just gives a warning that the phone is hot and wont charge until it cools down)
Heavier than the OP5
Screen protectors suck, even the whitestone protector didn't work well for me, glue starts to come off the sides in Texas heat. I have spent over $100 trying to find the best screen protector
Speed
Speed

The S8+ just feels like a dog for me sometimes. App switching can be slow, pulling up the app drawer is slow, apps close out of memory way too much. If I could just tell Android not to close a certain app on me it wouldn't be an issue. Basically, I use Excel every day at the gym and Excel reloads all the time, combine this with the fact that Excel has some type of bug where it freezes on first launch its even worse. It usually goes like this, open excel and it gets frozen on the splash screen, close it, retry opening it (this happens like 4 times), excel finally opens properly and I open the file I need. I come back to Excel 10 minutes later and I have to start the process all over because the app was closed.

OP5 Pro's

Great Software
Amazing Fingerprint Reader
Quick software updates
Speed
Amazing RAM management
Portrait Mode
DASH Charging (don't even put my phone on the charger at night anymore, just in the morning while I am getting ready)
Better battery life than S8+ (maybe due to Dash Charging)

Con's
No 2k Display
Bigger Bezels
Camera is a mixed bag (The best photo I have taken in the past year was on my OP5 but it’s not as consistent)
No advertised water resistance

I ordered the G6 because I read the camera is amazing, it is fast, and I want to see how it handles my Gym usage scenario compared to my S8+. If it has the same issue I will be returning the G6 and selling the S8+. I might try the U11 but will most likely just use the OP5 until the Essential Phone or Pixel 2 and go through the same usage scenario at the gym.

Re: Which one: $300 off Galaxy S8 or One plus 5?

Obviously the s8 is more value considering the latest techs ! But the OP5 offers immersive style and performance. The display is s8 is obvious futuristic. The dash charge in OP5 is awe. It depends on ur need

But performance is the most important aspect, isn't it?

The phone should be measured as a whole package, not only by one feature.

And yes performance is something very important, even though the last galaxies are laggy compared to OnePlus, Mate and Xiaomi MI, they have other great features, that not to say that galaxies are slow...

I wouldn't buy anyone of those since i have the Mate 9, in my opinion, there is no phone as big and wide as M9 with great screen, speakers performance and battery life under 1 package, and the price is getting lower since this phone is too underrated and was launched in a bad timing.

Re: Galaxy S8+ or Oneplus 5? Help!

Well, from what I've been reading, OnePlus seems to look closer to stock Android than Samsung does.

The Samsung is glass and the OnePlus is metal, but the Samsung is IP68 rated while the OnePlus isn't. One plus claims that they really are water resistant but they didn't want to spend the money to get certified. Given how much it would have been worth in marketing, I don't buy that.

Neither phone has been out long enough to REALLY know how they will do in terms of durability, but these facts are probably a good starting place for an estimate.

Galaxy s8 no contest. The s8 is such a great phone and the One plus 5 is just kind of average. Also the One plus dosn't have expandable storage or a beautiful display like the s8. Also if looking like stock android is important to you, you can always get nova launcher, which can be setup to look almost exactly like stock android if you get the right icon pack and nova settings.

I'm loving the S8+, but I'd like to get my hands on a OnePlus 5 to make a better judgment. I'm especially intrigued by the camera, seeing how OnePlus is touting it's one of the best in the market.

Well.. The S8 is a better phone... But if have to spend my own money.. Then it would be the One Plus 5... A. Lot more affordable...

S8: Pros:

-Display
-The second best camer on the market
-Hybrid Slot (dual sim OR single sim and expandable storage)
-waterproof IP68
-USB TypeC 3.1
-Themes
-Iris Scanner

Cons:
-Fingerscanner is on the back (and very bad to reach)
-It's glass gets broken more easily than op5

Oneplus5 pros:

-PERFORMANCE
-A little bit waterproofness (but no official ip certification)
-FAST AF FINGERSCANNER (& very reliable)
-Mute switch
-Pure stock android
-oxygen Os's useful features
-DASH Charge
-dual sim

Cons:

-Camera isn't so good as promised (but still better than my current a5 2016)
-Design is more or less 'uninspired'
-'Only' FullHD Screen (but it is enough for everydays use)
-No expandable storage
-Some users are experiencing a so called jelly effect because the screen was built in upside down to make the phone thinner

Sorry if i forgot something.

I'd add an extra plus for the OP5 which is sound quality (headphones not built in speaker) imo wired and also Bluetooth both sound better vs the S8

Couple things:

OP5 isn't pure or stock Android
S8 camera is part of a wide tie for third best

Agreed, OP5 isn't stock Android. Neither is Touchwiz, and everything I've seen indicates that OP5 did a much better job of not messing with the experience, although Samsung has gotten much better.

I had a hard time with this myself. I basically want the best camera you can get in and Android phone, but also want a UI that is close to stock. I've compared the S8, Pixel and OP5. I've looked heavily into professional reviews that focus on the camera and the OP5 comes out very close to the S8, which beats the Pixel. For the difference in cost, and the very nice close to stock Android UI, I'll take the OP5 all day every day.

If you are a budget buyer then one plus 5 is best for you but if you can afford s8 it is more better in display and camera but the performance is same

Re: Which one: $300 off Galaxy S8 or One plus 5?

At the price that you mentioned the S8 is an extremely attractive offer. At any other price I have seen I believe that the OnePlus5 is more attractive. So like any other deal it just depends on what pricing you are able to get!
