OnePlus X just killed the A9

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

No BAND 12 or 17. No Wi-Fi ac (5 Ghz). They didn't even try to put up a fight 👎

The average user doesn't care about the things you're mentioning. This is all gibberish to them. But again, an average user won't even know what oneplus is. It's only geeks like us who know it and geeks like us also know the gibberish you mentioned. So yes, I agree with you. A little.

But the average user will soon learn this phone's faults when they power it up and discover they don't have LTE.

Re: Oneplus X just killed the A9

I almost decided to wait on the Oneplus X instead of jumping in with the A9. I was extremely skeptical about the A9 when I first saw the design, then again when I saw the specs, then again when I saw the non-promo price. Somehow I still ended up ordering it at the $399 price point ($499 is too high and I hope HTC comes to their senses).

I've been a fan of HTC in the past. I had a Vivid a few years ago, then a One Mini (another phone with middling specs that was surprisingly usable). I read the reviews of this phone on a dozen different sites and talked myself into taking the plunge.

I know people are gonna mistake it for an iPhone, but the design does strike me as very premium looking, and I love the garnet color. The processor isn't the best, but I'm not into gaming, so I'm not too concerned. The memory is supposed to be fast and 3 gigs of RAM will help. The battery is small, but with Marshmallow out of the box, and quick charge 3.0 coming I think it'll be ok. Sound quality from the headphone jack is important to me, and HTC has made that a focus. The Uh oh protection is appealing if HTC doesn't fold in the next year.

I've been using 5.5 and 5.7 inch phones and I'm ready to try 5" again. The AMOLED display is supposed to be good. The Oneplus X gave me some pause, coming in at $150 cheaper than the promo price with a tried-and-true processor and good design itself (though I'll take metal over glass anyday). But no NFC, no finger-print scanner, no quick charging, no OIS and the need to wait for an invite or general sale down the line made it less appealing. It's still in the back of my mind if the A9 doesn't work out. I've had a Oneplus One and I was happy with the experience. I'm hoping HTC is rebounding though, so I'm giving them a fair shot.

I'm on the list for a Oneplus X though, and at $250 I might buy one also and use them back-to-back, then see which one goes one the market

A very valid point about OnePlus X. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I that I've double checked it, OPX is off my list unfortunately. I don't mind One A9's smaller battery as much as I thought I would. Coming from Moto X 2013 lack of One A9's support of ambient display is gonna be a deal breaker for me. FTR, OPX does seem to support that feature. So far on my list, it looks like Nexus 5X is the one to pick.

What does the 32 GB non expandable Nexus 5x at $429 have over the HTC One A9 at $499/$399 introductory?

Plastic build
Slower processor
Less RAM
No expandable storage
Worse screen
No OIS No RAW
Terrible sound quality
No rapid charge
Uncommon charging port
No FREE 1 year next day replacement warranty

The 5x has rapid charging (it doesn't have the proprietary quick charge however).

OnePlus X lacks bands 12 and 17, which means that if you are on AT&T or Tmobile, this phone is not going to have good reception. For $250 I was considering it but without those bands, it is not worth it.

Pretty sure the processor isn't slower... there is already a video on youtube showing the 5x out performing the a9. Sound quality isn't terrible. What do you mean uncommon lol type c will soon be the standard

"Rapid charging" is a gimmick. It doesn't support Qualcomm's Quick Charging 3.0 (or even 2.0) technology. It also charges very slow when the screen is on and the battery life is very disappointing for a 2700 mAh battery. The A9 wins that battle.

Shrug, it's far from a gimmick on my 6p. Charges my phone just as fast, if not faster in some instances, as my Nexus 6 charged with quick charge 2.0..

At first when the iPhone 6 came out with Fingerprint sensor, I was thinking it's no big deal. But after a week of using the A9, there is no way I'll get another phone without it. If you turn on the phone a lot like me, you'll love it. But, it's more than just unlocking the phone. I'm using it with a password manager app so the Fingerprint sensor is used to log in to all of my accounts. This saves me a lot of time entering userid and passwords. Another thing is NFC. Why would you want without it? No Android Pay?

The OnePlus X is good phone (I had the OnePlus One and I know) but it's just missing somethings I just learned to love.

OnePlus X should be an automatic fail for anyone in the US, as LTE is flaky at best. OnePlus knows how to ruin their chances with crap like that.

Bought my son the OnePlus X for Christmas. It is a fine phone but I would definitely not give up my A9 for one.

What network are you using it on?

I don't have the A9 yet but the lack of Band 17 was the final reason why decided to go for the A9 over the OPX. I connect to AT&T almost exclusively on Band 17. :(

Probably a stupid question but where is it you find the band being used?

I ordered both the A9 and the OnePlus X.
I wont go into the hardware details of both since they have been well discussed.

I REALLY wanted to like and keep the HTC but I sent it back because:

I don't like dim Yellowish screens. The One Plus X is BRIGHT! At 20% it is brighter than the A9 at 100%!!!

I'm a former iPhone user a d can't stand Android "stutter". When you fast scroll on the A9 there is stuttering. The OnePlus X is as smooth as silk just like iOS.

Smart move by OnePlus to forego the latest Gen midrange of today for top-line processor of 2014.

Display Plus better CPU and $150 cheaper. Slam dunk for the One Plus X. The first Android phone that as a loyal Apple iOS lover, I actually respect and admire

PS. The Oxygen OS is clean stock Android experience and much cleaner and nicer icon presentation than the A9.
