Yesterday I was part of a group text that was keeping several people up to date on a relative's surgery. Later in the day I texted my wife (using a term of endearment I wouldn't use publicly) asking here if she needed anything when I was coming home. I ended up sending that to the entire group that had been kept in the loop about the surgery! (My wife's name was the first in that list so I'm not a complete *****!) there will be many likes to come from the people in that group. Fortunately, it wasn't anything too embarrassing. I'm sure it could have been worse!

This is the background for my question. I didn't see in the settings of the stock app anything that would provide a warning or confirmation that you were texting to a group. Did I miss a setting? Otherwise, is there another SMS app that would provide this? I don't want to have to worry about this again.

I recently realized this as well. I too replied to who I thought was just one person but it was to all the people in the group text.

You have to just start a new text with the one person who you want to text.

The only warning, or way to know or not if you are texting back to a group or not is the actual sent button on the right. If it says MMS then that's the group. But if it's simply SMS then that's one person.

Yeah, I was hoping for a dialog box or something. So no one knows of an SMS replacement app that would do this? At least email has a separate "reply" and "reply to all" function...

I think we need to know the actual term used in order to help you out. ;)

I agree there should be some sort of "reply to all" warning. Seems like quite an oversight on Google's part (espcially since native "MMS Group Text" was a highly anticipated feature of 4.2 to iOS converts...and everyone else for that matter). Other than the MMS by the send button (that I never noticed...thanks) it says the number of people you're replying to under the first person's name/number on the top left and you can see all the group participants hitting the menu button.
