Opening office documents in ES File Explorer

I am running on a Samsung S23 Ultra with android 13.
When I start the samsung file explorer and tick a docx or xlsx file the first time, it asks me what is the app I want to use to open that particular document.
I can say it is for once or always. If I select Microsoft 365 (or with an older version of office for Android than called Office), the file is successfully opened in Microsoft 365 the next time.

The first time I click such a document in ES File Explorer (always the same no matter which version 4.4.03.4.4.0.4 and 4.4.06) Es File explorer crashes.
If I do a long tap I can select the app I want to use to open the document.
If I select WPS Office everything goes fine.
If I select Microsoft 365 it goes partially fine.
I attach a print screen of what happens when I select Microsoft 365.
Microsoft 365 opens, but does not open the document.
I thought this worked fine in the past.
Can this be solved in anyway?

Try sending an email to the developer and see if they're aware of the issue.

Incidentally, I would suggest using a different file manager app. ES File Explorer used to be a reliably good app a long time ago, but then it was acquired by a Chinese company called DO Global, which was doing shady things like click fraud, such that the app was removed from the Play Store: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ES_File_Explorer.

Currently, it's unclear to me if the app on the Play Store is related at all to the old one, or if it's just capitalizing on the old app name. There's an ES File Manager (not Explorer) by Greensoft, which has a miserable 2.8 star rating. Then there's an EX File Manager (which is clearly trying to capitalize on the name) and ESuper File Explorer, whose developer (ESTRONGS LIMITED) seems to be the same one that developed the original ES, but I've never seen it called "ESuper."

The bottom line is that there are better file manager apps out there. I use Total Commander, which is free and ad-free. It doesn't have the most user-friendly UI, but it's very versatile and has additional plug-ins in the Play Store. Others have recommended Solid Explorer and X-Plore, although those require payment if you want the full app.

At least I found the problem.
Reinstalling Microsoft 365 solved it.
I know about ES File Explorer not being safe but I'm so familiar with its interface that it's difficult to switch to another filemanager but I will think it over.
