I use to use this app when I was on froyo and it worked fine. Now that I'm using blackside I get "location may be inaccurate" the gps seems to be working fine it shows where I'm at. When I click the warning banner it wants me to change my network mode to GSM only. I can't change it. I can't even toggle it using the Power Control Widget. Is someone else having the same problem with IHO or is it a problem with the newer releases of opensignal.

Hi,

First post but long time OV subject monitor.....

I have had Open Signal on my phone for abut 10 months now.

I am still on the stock ROM myself. So I can't help much.

Periodically I get location may be inaccurate and then the next time I use it, it's fine.

You can't switch to GSM with an Optimus V (CDMA). Yeah I've read Open Signal documentation here and there, in certain portions it suggest GSM over CDMA as you mentioned. Well we can't go that route.

And worse, being were on Virgin Mobile, it only locks into one tower at a time, so we can only plot one cell tower on a map at a time. So much for triangulation.

Additionally, the only issue I am presently having is..What ever happened of late when I wat ot plot WiFi routers, it says it can't find any even though I'm 10 feet away from one that is wide open. Yet I can fire up another app (WiFi analyzer) and pull up half a dozen routers. I went backwards 3 versions of Open Signal and none of them work now. Must be my phone. I have it on my to do list to wipe phone and either put one of my copies of stock back on or try another ROM. When I do, check to see if I can get Open Signal to work is on the list.

Hopefully others will come along and give you some input on Open Signal Maps with IHO.

Good luck!

I installed this yesterday and am having all of the issues described in the previous posts (did not roll back three versions, however). Currently running Bobz's most current iho build.

Im on harmonia and it seems pretty accurate... Even more so than on my evo shift.

This is what I'm getting. Before I think it would show where the WiFi was coming from. Its recognizing the WiFi signal but it won't display it on the map or the radar. How can I get older revisions of open signal?

silent_20, I tried to PM you but it won't let me. So I'll post it here.

One place to find older versions might be 4shared.com, tough it's risky with all the viruses out there. But again I'm seeing the same things on older versions now (while on stock rom) where I did not before.

Good of you to attach a screen shot of what you are experiencing. That's what I see. A bunch of routers plotted, some in range and yet only my router is plotted. My location is accurate, but it says my router is half a mile away on the map, when it reality it is less than 10 feet away. It did not used to behave like this.

Now I just tested it again and the accuracy jumps around a bit. Okay, but then once I see it say my location might be inaccurate briefly, then it goes back to indicating accuracy.

One thing I noticed on your picture, the blue area under your location is quite small, which normally indicates it feels the accuracy is good. Hmm....

Something else I remember, a while back I turned off all that data sharing and guess what, things were not working properly. So since then I have made sure some sharing is allowed. I forget which version that was on.

I'll try some more things here in a bit and see what I can come up with....Interesting topic.

I might have to revert to harmonia to see if it still works with that. The WiFi location on the map was the most important feature for me.

I'm back after further trials as promised.

I'm not an expert on things android but I do read a lot about stuff so I can take better guesses what what to do!

From Xionia, I wiped case and the Dalvik cache, thinking maybe some data got stuck. Nope. Still says my router is 1/2 a mile a way, were at least in the past it did not act up like this.

So I went from stock OV to flashing Harmonia 1.3, but not before Wiping data/factory reset and Dalvik cache. I did not do any formatting (maybe I should have?)

I installed a file explorer so I could get access to my SD card where I have a Open Signal v.9 in my collection (not a titanium backup). I installed it and guess what....

It still says my router is at a specific location half mile from here, and says there are 3 routers in range, yet it does not plot them just lie before.

This got me to thinking....You know how our 'data' is collected and then sent away. I wonder if at some point recently the great location database they are compiling was updated, and now it's showing us where it believes the home baser for the mac address of my router lives, just like it seems to know where the cell towers are (incorrectly in my case) even though us Virgina mobile users cannot track multiple towers for triangulation.

I'm stumped!

Update...I try again.

This time I Wiped data/factory reset, Dalvik cache, and this time I formatted boot, data, system, and cache, then flashed Harmonia 1.3, and after that I rebooted twice.

Turned wifi on,turned GPS on.

I proceeded to install and explorer to access the SD where I have Open Signal Maps v.9 located. I installed it, then opened it.

I selected wifi mode. It said it could not find any routers at all. I waited 5 minutes, nothing. I then hit the ' i ' button in the lower right (of the overview screen). It lists 3 routers it can see, yet on the map screen it says there are none.

I let the phone connect to my router. As soon as it does, the map screen reports 3 routers in range, but only shows my router the phone is connected to. It still believes my router is in this specific spot 1/2 mile from here.

I'm thinkin' my theory in post #9 might hold some merit. I don't know what else to try.

i Just flashed Harmonia 1.6.1C. With this install I don't get "location may ..." now it says accurate 8 to 120m which is normal but it doesn't show the routers on the map. It shows one but its around 5 miles away and thats not the one I'm connect to. I did this testing with the latest opensignal. The only other rom that I've use is BB but I don't think that supports the recovery that I have so I won't try that for a while.

Okay on Moving up to Harmonia 1.6. Now, you are experiencing the exact same thing I am seeing here as mentioned in my previous posts. This can't be coincidence..

Some where, Open Signal invites e-mails about potential problems. I might do that and just give them a link to this thread as I think we've pretty much covered it in detail.

I just found out Open Signal has their very own forum. When you visit however, I think it pretty much says it all however (low activity) http://opensignalmaps.com/forum/ perhaps we should copy and paste our posts over there, as I just realized this forum main topic is about rooting and roms. Apologies to everyone!

If you want to start a topic over there at OSM, I'll track with you and can sequentially copy our posts until we're caught up, though I don't expect much to be addressed from the looks of things there.
