Hello everyone. I'm new here. I've been posting solely in the Epic section up until now.

I have a bit of a dilemma. I really would like to switch over to an Android device (currently have a 3Gs). However, I'm on the fence as to which one I'd like to go with. I've been doing the touchscreen thing for a while now and quite frankly I'm not a huge fan. Prior to my iPhone I had a Blackberry Bold and LOVED it. Frankly I think it was the best device I have ever typed on. Aside from that it was horrible.

That being said, I'm now in the market for an Android device. I'm on the fence as to which I should go with. Top of my list is the Samsung Epic but unfortunately there's no sort of time frame for release and I'm quite impatient. Second on the list is the Droid X. I found a place locally that has 1 in stock. Lastly is the AT&T variant of the Samsung device. The captivate.

I know it's virtually impossible to compare a phone that isn't out yet. I would really like some input from you all though. Coming from AT&T and an iPhone I'd really like to make the right decision the first time.

I've had a chance to play with an Epic. The keyboard is fantastic, if you like horizontal sliders. Supposedly the Droid 2 has a great keyboard as well. Don;t hold me on this, but the rumor mill that I subscribe to says to expect both in August.

Having said that, the best thing to do is decide what carrier will work out best for you -- where you live, where you work, and where you play. If AT&T works well for you, the Captivate looks like a great phone.

Thank you for your informed response. I appreciate valuable input such as yours. I live in an area where Sprint coverage is a bit suspect. I have numerous friends who have switched off of Sprint over the years. Years ago we had a couple hurricanes come through back to back. Sprint/Nextel pushed everyone off their towers for emergency responders and it seemed like it never came back.

I like QWERTY's but it seems that they are becoming antiquated. Perhaps I need to just bite the bullet and become swype savvy.

AT&T reins supreme in this area. I just don't really like their devices.

If at&t is the best in your area I would suggest you go with the captivate. But if Verizon is good in your area you should get the droid x cause it has some really good reviews. I would suggest you make your decision based on what the best network for your area is not the best phone.
