Opinions of G3 after a few months of use

I just can't get into a 6" screened phone. I need a phone that fits in my back pocket and the Nexus 6 is close to not fitting...
I agree. I think that I would use it more as a tablet than a phone. Just to play with.

My G3 is the best phone I've had. Came from the Samsung Galaxy S 4. The G3 is the perfect high end size for me. It fits the pockets of my work shirts, but any bigger and it wouldn't. I have never seen lag on my phone, and the battery always has 50% at the end of the day. I'm not a power user, so factor that.

There are now more custom ROMs for the G3 than you can shake two sticks at. Want to see what a fast ROM really looks like? Go grab Illusion 2.11. (Edit: Illusion might be Verizon specific) AnTuTu scores on the as flashed settings (interactive is the default) and I've busted 45,000 several times, high of 46,120. I really don't care about high benchmark scores, but it shows what the G3 can do. Have not tried tweaking for higher scores. Interactive is the fastest governor. Performance hits 41,000-42,000.

This thing is a signal beast, best signal in weak areas I've ever used. The Galaxy S 4 is not even in the same league. WiiI signals and reception are excellent too. I might find higher specs, but this G3 is about perfect for me.

After owning a number of Samsungs, this is my first LG phone.

Likes:
  • Nice display
  • OK plus camera
  • Power/volume buttons on the back
  • Qslide, I wish they had more apps supported

Dislikes:
  • The GPS is not as good/fast as the Samsung
  • It may be an AT&T issue but it drop out of LTE more often than the Samsung in the same place

Overall the most frustrating issue is the GPS and the GPRS radio.. The phone sits in the car at the same place, is the same cradle as all my other phones and it seems that the GPS is not as sensitive of as fast as my previous phones. Nav apps lose thier oriantaion quite often.
The Data Connection also in not as good as the samsung phones, as where I used to get LTE in most of the area I live, with this phone I drop from LTE to "4G" more often (could be an AT&T issue, but i doubt it.)

I will keep this phone for now, but once my contract is up I'm back to Samsung.

That may be an LG thing. I had a g2 with Verizon that would drop LTE to 3g more often than my Motorola.

I came from galaxy S2, S4 & S5 with Sprint and switched to T-Mobile and the G3 never drops out of LTE and the calls and gps and everything are heads and tails better than the Samsung. Don't know if it's the manufacturer or Carrier but very happy with the G3.

I've had my G3 since spring. Essentially I like it.
I traded in a new M8 for this because the M8 camera was so bad and the screen was really too small for what I wanted.
Other than that the M8 was awesome. AND- you could buy it SIM-unlocked- not associated with any carrier.

So one the plus side of the G3:

+ Screen is nice
+ Feels good in the hand
+ Battery is removable+ Fast and no noticeable lag or mystery reboots
+ Camera is decent. Still not as good as iphone.
+The Dual Window is convenient occasionally and the Quick Memo is great.

Minuses:
- Cannot buy this SIM-unlocked (ie, no carrier associated). AT&T has made this phone inferior.
They killed FM radio and they added carrier IQ. I eliminated Carrier IQ but cannot get the FM radio back.
- Camera is only OK
- Battery life seems to be getting worse as months go on. If using Auto screen brightness, it's usually just too dim. If you turn that off, the 2560 display chews battery. No surprise.
- the 2560 display is good but it's not THAT much better than 1080.
- The single speaker on the back is loud enough but it's shame that on a $600 phone, they can't place two stereo speakers on the front. A couple of us out here watch Netflix and listen to music on our phones.
- Big minus is that when external speakers are plugged in or you plug into car or stereo amplifier, there's a loud POP between music tracks. Also, in the same situation, there's a lot of background "computer" chatter on the left channel. This chatter is relative to the activity on the screen. If you scroll around, the noise in the left channel changes in proportion. It's annoying. This does no happen with earbuds or headphones, only devices which have a front-tend preamp and an amplifier. To me, it appears to be bad shielding somewhere between the signal conductors to the display and the left channel audio.

I've been looking forward to the HTC M9, but it appears they are keeping the display at 5" so I won't be going for that. too small for a 24/7 device.
