I've got a chance to pick up a basically brand new 4G Xoom rather cheaply, and I wanted some opinions on what people think of theirs.

Is it too late in the game to be picking one up? Does it have any glaring issues that you really wish would get taken care of or that make you wish you didn't have it?

Really, I'd just like overall opinions. Thanks, I definitely appreciate it!

I think the Xoom stands toe to toe with any tablet that is currently available. It may be thicker than the rest, but performs just fine. If the price is right, I would pick it up. What price are you looking at?

Well, it's basically brand new. Still has the plastic on it and only has about 10 or so minutes of use. He's got it listed at $400 and I'm trying to see if he would go any lower but haven't heard back. I don't care about the thickness necessarily, I'm more interested in performance (and the stock ICS on a tablet really intrigues me).

The Verizon 4G Xoom has not gotten its ICS update yet. I hope its on its way.

$400.00 seems kind of high to me. If you want one, I would see what VZE is selling them off contract. I'm sure its around $400.00 by now.

It's a great device! for your dollar however, at this late in the game $400 is a little steep... Moore's Law should be slapping that in the face shortly. I suggest $350-$375 at most because you are essentially buying year old hardware that is used (barely, but still used), and you can't upgrade components like a computer.

Yeah, I knew it wasn't out yet, but I was assuming that it would be on its way *fingers crossed*. $400 does seem high, but that was his starting point. I never pay first asking price. The off-contract CLN Xoom is $670, so $400 is still considerably lower. However, he won this, so anything is profit to him. I'm thinking $325 simply because it is partially used and last year's model. I'm playing the wait and see game now, as I'm definitely not paying $400.

But thanks for the advice guys, I do appreciate it.

Wow! @ $670.00 Verizon is proud of their Xooms. Refurbished at that.

I would think the closer you get to $325.00 the better off you will be.

Good luck and I hope you end up with a good deal.

Verizon is way off base on that pricing. That's absolutely ridiculous!

I've sent him an email seeing what he would take (wouldn't do anything with my iPhone as partial trade and him pay me some cash). So I'm waiting to hear back. I don't think I would realistically do much more than $325. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks again for your help.

Unfortunately, he said he was firm at $400. I think that's a little steep with it being last year's model and with new tabs coming out this year.

Yes, but $400 off contract is not that bad, considering that an on-contract Xoom with Verizon (even at refurb) is still $299.

Yeah, it's not terrible. Just more than what I'd prefer to pay. Especially that it is a year old model.

This conundrum reminds me of a famed psychological experiment called "the Marshmallow Test". To paraphrase, this professor at Stanford in the 60's had these children sit in front of a marshmallow and if they could resist eating it for 15-20 minutes they received a second one. Roughly 30% of the children could delay their gratification for that time...

Where I'm going with this is that the Xoom is your first marshmallow, see if you can wait and get the second one. It'll be all the sweeter and plentiful when you land something like the transformer prime on sale for the same price 2-3 months from now.

My work bought me a Wifi Xoom and I like it enough that I've decided to skip an upgrade to the XYBoard and just wait for the 3rd generation of tablet to come out. It's a pretty solid device.

I think $400 is a good price, and it will be worth it. The hardware is really not much behind when compared to the Xoom2. I've never thought while using my xoom wow I wish I had better hardware. It just works and does what it's supposed to. My only complaint is the thickness and weight but I'll upgrade to the Asus Prime when they release a version that has a working GPS.

The dev support on the xoom is gonna be much better than the xyboard and is a "Google experience device." It's too easy to unlock and root the xoom and the team EOS ics rom is amazing and makes the xoom feel like a brand new tab. $400 seems a lil steep but it is off contract. If you want to unlock and root IMO the xoom is the best tab for that right now.

I'm still on the fence and the guy still has it available. Would you guys say go for it at $400 (he won't lower the price)? Or would you buy a brand new GTab 8.9 for $400 from Best Buy or a 10.1 for $445 from Amazon?

How much does the 4G matter to you? I would buy that Xoom for $400 over the others even if it was WiFi only.

I LOVE my Xoom.

4g doesn't really matter at all. I would most likely use it with wifi at home. I'm still thinking about it because he won't budge at all on the $400 price.
