optimus s... help!

im not sure if its my dell or optimus that doesnt work with rooting. i have followed all steps, but nothing seems diff?

Hi and welcome. Rooting doesn't make your phone radically different (unless you install a custom ROM), rather it gives you access to the entirety of the Android OS and lets you do anything you want to it, good bad or indifferent. Check your app drawer, if you have the superuser app installed then you have successfully rooted your phone.
