Hi all,

My wife and I switched to Sprint in Jan 2011 and since then, we've been using Optimus S. It's a great budget phone and, at that time, I was able to get both for free. Fast forward to now, we're knee deep in the contract and no hope for upgrade.

I can get a manufacturer refurbished Evo 4G for $180 online. Is the Evo 4G still worth it? Will other newer phones will be available for the same price in a few months? I can get a 2 year Squaretrade warranty for $30+ as well.

Both of us mainly use our phones for surfing and watching videos with very little gaming. Just got tired of the smaller Optimus S screen. I realize the specs are older but it would be a huge leap from Optimus S.

Thanks in advance...

I came from optimus s in August and YES its worth it. More internal memory and a flash player allows you to watch videos. Bigger screen and more options in general. More custom roms, more games you can play. It just goes on. I have HTC sense 3.0 on my evo and I love it

Same here, I cam from the optimus s. It was an awesome upgrade. The roms seem much more stable. The flash player is so awesome. Everything is better, plus I have large hands, so the keyboards are like night and day. The evos keyboard is awesome and huge compared to the optimus.

I never understood why people get 2 year contracts with such crappy phones, youre really going to have it for two years? lol..

Anyways, yes its a perfect ugprade. The EVO is a great phone, still up to par in terms of technology for the most part, and the best part is that you can find it for really cheap online.

Consumers think with their wallet. A smartphone for free is a great deal for the average Joe coming from something lightyears behind -- an even better deal when you have a family plan and everyone wants a smartphone.

In my opinion, yes. Evo 4g is a good phone to have now and will get you through to the next upgrade eligibility and probably beyond if you really wanted to. Remember, the developer community has provided great support for the phone if you decide to root and take advantage of custom ROMs and hacks.

Shhh...adults are talking... To everyone else, thanks for the input.
