Optimus V Community Build Server

This wireless for my computer is a TP-Link, and as cheap as it is it is the only one that I have had that as not failed: running three years strong. Though TP-Link wireless adapters are not very well supported on Linux systems, the driver is buggy.

Cheap routers and me don't mix. :p

Let's look at what I do typically.
I run 2 laser printers (B&W and color), the build box (remote access and FTP), file server (with torrents, remote access and VPN), 2 desktops, 5 laptops, 2 cell phones, and 2 test benches for client computers.

I used to use 250gigs of data in a slow month, and 500 on a busy one, with the build box, that has increased to 500 on a slow month and 750 on a high use month. 95% of people use less than 200.

and now I'm getting ready to:
Start streaming a webcam 24/7
Add another web server to host half a dozen websites here, with as many as 500 people online at once and will add another 150gigs worth of data.

If I had that much load on a router (all NAT'd I'm sure) I'd probably either (1) use a Linux or FreeBSD box. Probably a Soekris or similar. Or (2) get a low/mid end enterprise router.

Seems to handle it all just fine so far.
We will see later on, I'm hoping the web server will not be running through this router.

If I do need one though, I have an old P3 900 that would function great as a router.

Having a webcam watching all that technology 24/7 would be like nerd porn

The webcam will be streaming an owl box in the backyard. I did a robin's nest year before last.

At any rate, there's not really anything exotic down there. It's a lot of equipment, and I guess a bit above what most people use, but it's nothing special, except maybe the file server or my old desktop case.

Here is my file server.
Hand made Oak, aluminum and plexi, 7.5in cube (smaller than the old G4 cubes and has the PSU inside), 2Terrabytes, 2gigs ram, gigabit ethernet. It uses a single fan, is dead silent and runs on 25 watts. The LED lighting can be dimmed or turned off.

Anyone with Windows should really use cygwin as there ssh client in combo with repo and git and works very well. I'll put a package together for people to downlaod, it well be about a 170MB download size and around 700MB install size.
