Optimus v Cyanogenmod Reception

Yes I am using the latest PRL from the last page of the xda forums link and my 3g and my signal improved big time, I just thought maybe there was direct access to Sprint to get the latest PRL instead of relying on other people to post it on the forums. I mean, how do they get the latest PRL and upload it to the forum? Do they get it from new phones maybe?

Yes, usually from new phones or phones that have updated prl's. As far as I know, there isn't a place to get prl's directly from Sprint. I'm sure they would prefer us not to have access to these.

The latest prl posted on xda, 22081, is the only one that has shown noticeable signal improvements for me (LA/Orange County area).

I tried logging into Virgin Mobile and all using that link, but I get URL not valid instead of 404. I also tried the tools thing, buuut in my Device manager the Drivers are different. So I think PRL, I cannot do.

Is your phone turned off? For it to show correctly in device manager, the phone needs to be off or in recovery.

Changing the PRL does not work on any IHO rom except for the one with the XIONIA Kernel. The problem comes once you get into QPST Configuration. QPST Configuration does not recognize it as a phone. It only shows up as a USB device and says No Phone. No matter what I try it will never show up under Active Phones.

I have been able to change my prl numerous times using an IHO ROM.

Could you explain how you got it to work? No matter what I try it does not seem to work for me. I have tried different drivers, recovery mode, and while phone was off. Nothing seems to work and once the phone is plugged in while being off it just boots right up into the rom.

I was able to change my PRL with the Xionia kernel with no problems at all. I was using the same drivers I am using now so I know that is not the problem. The only thing that had changed was the kernel. I went from the original IHO Kernel (Did Not Work) to IHO with Xionia Kernel (Worked) and then back to IHO Kernel (Not Working).

yes, the iho kernel doesn't have the right usb id coding for the PSTs to see it. I've tried a bunch of different PSTs and none of them can talk to the phone in iho roms or iho recovery.

The only way I was able to update my PRL is to mount the phone using the recovery, when the phone was booted up into the iho rom the phone was not communicating with the software.

What exactly did you mount in recovery? While my phone is in recovery and plugged in it is recognized in hardware manager but never as an active phone in QPST Configuration. In recovery I have also tried "mount usb storage" and "mount system" under mounts and storage and still no luck.

Can you tell me step by step exactly what you did?

4shared folder - My 4shared

There are drivers as well as stock rom in my 4shared backup
these I am keeping there =)
dl them if u think it will help.
try goin to device manager and setting the modem (NOT GPS or was it gprs...) as com 1 or 2
otherwise I believe you may have to add the port in qpst.
oh and the prl in my 4shared is the hybrid.
I havent tried it myself yet..

I'll stick with the IHO roms by mrg for reception. Seems like I get better connection there. 3 bars, faster speed....

I used this guide and the drivers linked in it: [HOWTO] Change PRL on Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V (5/06/2011) - xda-developers

1. I installed their drivers
2. Connected the phone to the computer using the usb cable, then turned the phone off "it rebooted instead, thats normal"
3. Windows will now install all the drivers. I went into device manager and chose my COM port like the guide said.
4. I rebooted the phone into Recovery then went into "-mounts and storage" then "-mount USB storage"
5. Window now recognizes the phone as a GOOGLE mass storage device, thats ok.
6. I launched CDMA Workshop and got my MSL code like the guide said, then launched QPST to upload the PRL I chose onto the phone according to the guide.

Done. I discovered this trick with an hour of frustration and agony. But if you follow the steps exactly as i described it there is no way the software wont be able to communicate with the device, which was my frustration for almost an hour and a half last night trying to replace the PRL on my phone.

Good luck! :)

That was my biggest annoyance, that the ONLY way it'd work was if USB debugging was on, I plugged the phone in (while on) then powered it down. I dunno why but that's the only way it works for me.

as a bit of extra info, the iho kernel (including iho recovery) doesn't get recognized by qpst or other service tools no matter how much wrangling you try with drivers and settings.

try xionia cwma or clockworkmod. they both work for pst's.

Ok thanks, It worked perfectly with clockworkmod. My question now is which recovery would I be better off with when using an IHO rom? The IHO Recovery or clockworkmod? Does the IHO recovery work better with IHO roms than the clockworkmod recovery?

couldn't say. IHO recommends the iho recovery, but I've never had any problems with xionia or colckworkmod installing iho variants.
