Wow thanks for this news!!! I've been trying to push my mom into getting the Optimus V, maybe the sale, plus the $10 off will push her more into getting it!

and an extra 60 minutes for each of us if you enter this Virgin Mobile Kickback code during activation--

Do Kickback codes do anything when you're on a monthly BeyondTalk plan? I was told no, but maybe it's worked for you (assuming you're on a BeyondTalk plan).

If you're on the $60 unlimited it won't make any difference, but otherwise, you get 60 minutes more of talk time. They still may not make a difference- VM uses your "extra" minutes first- then your monthly plan minutes, so if you don't talk for 360 0r 1260 minutes that month, you lose them-- although VM would say you didn't lose them, you used them.

Have you actually gotten the extra minutes on your $24/$40 BeyondTalk plan from a Kickback? Reason I ask is that I had gotten a VM text that I got 60 bonus minutes under the Pass It On program (when someone else activates your old phone). But under My Account, it still showed my minutes limit at 300. So my assumption is that it only applied to the "regular" prepaid plans and not BeyondTalk.

Yeah- it was a tough fight. "Officially" it says you get them if you appy the code during activation on the web-- ie-- not if you activate through a Customer service rep. When I first talked to a rep I mentioned this- and said I wanted to activate the phone with whatever number I got- but then, in a week or so i would want to port an existing number from another carrier. They suggested I activate with a customer service rep-- it would "be easier"-- "don't worry -- you'll still get your kickback credit"

After mentioning it three times during activation, I finally had to get a Supervisor to give me the credit. And then had to call 3 more times to finally get it applied. And then found out it probably won't make much difference anyway---

I'm on the $25/300 minute plan too. The 300 ATM (Any Time Minutes) doesn't change.
I ony found out the extra minutes had been added to my account when I checked my usage through the web and noticed they were being used at the start of the month-- before using the 300-- so-- they aren't of any value at all unless the month the code is added you make it a point to talk 60 extra minutes-- and then hang up fast. So, I know I got them and they are in use-- I still can't figure it out completely-- based on minutes remaining being less than 300, they are used up. The calls are annotated-- ATM minutes, bonus minutes,, but I still can't make it add up.

I had assumed they would stay on the account untill I used them by going over the 300:),
...but it doesn't work that way.:(

- I have Skype- and since they went to 3G application a few days after I got the Optimus V and the old cell number ported, I use my Skype number for incoming and outgoing- calls and the VM number for texting in/out-
300 minutes a month should be enough to train people to use what they knew as my cell number for texts and use the skype number- which they knew as my "home number" --for voice calls.

It makes it a bit more complicated, but for a total cost of about 30 bucks I have a smart phone and essentially unlimited everything.

Ok so, my mom bought the Optimus V at Radioshack today, and we brought in the printable $10 coupon and the guy scanned it and said the coupon has already been redeemed? How is that even possible? Unless the guy was mad at us for not giving him any sales and saying no to the warranty plan 5 times, and not buying any accessories, he just said that so we don't get a deal. But I doubt that. No employee should do that. Phone total came to $175ish which sounds about right. Thank you for the heads up on the Optimus V sale price. Would have never known about it. The Optimus V isn't even listed in the official advertisement paper we got with our newspaper. My mom and I thank you OP. :P

On a side note, tomorrow I'm going to be rooting it and doing all the fixings on it exactly like mine.

LOL same situation over here. the rooting shall begin soon XD

its good they have people like us. they would use the phone stock and be upset that it keeps dropping 3G and lags, and they would be unhappy customers. and be turned off of smartphones for a very long time. I've seen it. one bad device will ruin a persons perception of the entire platform.

Hahaha indeed. Who the hell really needs all those preinstalled VM apps that just waste up phone memory? And the bolded part pretty much sums up my mom and her attitude towards things. If something goes wrong with a particular product/service, she is turned away from it forever. Hope nothing goes wrong after the root though unless I will be screwed. Been trying for a year now to get her to switch to Android on VM. Can finally breathe a sigh of relief that she finally got one. But nothing should go wrong. Same phone as mine so same steps etc.

I got my phone at letstalk.com about 2 months ago for $149-- since gone up to $199. Since then the deals have been few and quick-- about a 2 hr window on Amazon bout a week back for about $130 something.

I was price checking the last 2 weeks for my brother and said he might catch a deal Memorial Day-- and figured I might as well post the links here as I found them.

He got one at his local Radio Shack this morning-- and same story with the coupon. Some times they honor them, sometimes they don't-- and you might be right that it may depend on how many over-priced accessories they can sell you.

Hope your Mom and anyone else who got the Radio Shack or HSN deals enjoys their new phone.

As many other posters have mentioned, if you're coming off a contract with most any other carrier, even at the full $199, the phone pays for itself pretty quick with VM's low monthly cost.

If you are one of the lucky Optimus V owners who caught a sale, check out the accessory threads here-- It's amazing what accessories you can get for a few dollars.

I found these through a suggestion from poster Zires-- they are great earbuds- better than the included ones- and the call answer/mpe button works the same way.

It appears the coupon is a unique, one-time-use coupon. Once it is used, it doesn't work again. The coupon recipient's e-mail address is actually in the link. I think it's the kind anybody can sign up for though.

RS employees get commission on certain upsells (service plan, accessories, etc.). One of them is if they activate a prepaid phone in-store + sell you airtime. So some RS employees will end up telling customers it's required to activate in-store and buy airtime when it actually isn't.

Thanks for the feedback on the Kickback program. VM's outsourced CS doesn't make anything easy.
