Hey folks... another question here on my new droid maxx. I am coming over from the GS3 and i remember having some trouble juggling email accts/notifications.

I have a gmail account and 2 work related email accounts. In setting up my phone, I had to log in my gmail info, etc.

I want to set up the "mail" app to access all of my accounts and use a single widget to look at all of them. When I added my gmail account to the mail app, I get a permanent warning in my status bar in regards to a duplicate email account. I don't want to delete the Gmail acct b/c i think it'll have implications on my back up, contacts, etc.

I do like the Gmail app but am looking for a single option to manage my mail. I was hoping to use the mail app to manage all three together. I would prefer to find a work around without needing a 3rd party app but am willing to entertain that option.

Hopefully this makes sense. Thank you for your time.

As far as I know, gmail likes to be kept separate from other email accounts. You may be able to sneak it in in a general email account, but you would of course get double notifications when something comes through

Yeah... i'm ok with Gmail idiosyncracies but the Maxx appears to be hardwired to alert you if you have a double email acct. I imagine there's a way around this but i haven't found it yet.

Start at a home screen. Go into settings. Tap Google under accounts. Tap your Gmail account. Uncheck the Gmail sync. Now you should have only the native mail app looking for mail.

I don't use it anymore, but I like the k9 mail app in the play store.

Personally, I forward all my mail accounts to my Gmail account at the server level, and have gmail filter them into their own labels. I also have gmail set to reply from each of the accounts so I can use Gmail as a single mail account. But, I don't have a work account, so that works for me.

Doogald-

Thank you for that advice. I have already done that... I still get that permanent error message under notifications that there are duplicate email accounts. I guess I am just going to have to deal with it... I am using an email widget with all 3 accts. the inconvenience of the msg is far less than having to dedicate a 2nd widget to keeping an eye on my gmail.

Like I said - try the K9 mail app in the play store. See if that generates an error. I think it won't, because accounts in K9 are not defines in the accounts section of the settings, like the stock mail client does.
