Downloaded the 8.1.0 update this morning (beta program); have not noticed any changes, issues or problems. If I do notice anything, will post about it.
I am now on:
Build - OPP5.170921.005
Security patch - October 5, 2017

I've noticed the nav buttons are now dim when not active, and the quick settings shade is somewhat transparent.

Has anyone tried any of the methods to suppress the persistent notifications that are shown by Oreo? (I'll dig up a link when I get a chance.)

Here are some examples of applications that use persistent notifications:
AccuBattery https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.digibites.accubattery
Display brightness https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightnessPro
Light Flow https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow

And a link for how to disable them:

I still haven't received Android 8. If I enroll in the beta program, do I need to stay in it so that I don't lose the data on my phone? This seems to be the easiest and quickest way for me to update my phone right now. I've seen someone post that Android 8 fixes the 30% battery drain problem.

Typically when you unenroll in the Beta program it will send you the release OS which will downgrade your OS and wipe it in the process.

I've noticed that the power off and restart menu and the soft notifications (idk what they're actually called) look a lot nicer. Android auto is working fine, but I did have a problem where the music wasn't playing. A reset fixed that.
